A New Canaan woman, along with her entire family and a number of friends, delivered flowering plants to 150 seniors staying at home Easter Sunday during the coronavirus pandemic.
Neen Socci raised money from community members, purchased the flowers, loaded them onto a trailer, and wrote notes to each family before her and her volunteers personally delivered them to each senior's home.
Included with the flowers were a few candies hidden inside of Easter eggs, much like the surprise each senior recieved when they saw their delivery.
Socci worked with 'Staying Put,' a nonprofit that helps aid seniors living in New Canaan by volunteering to keep them safe and active within the community.
Organizers at 'Staying Put' say they have been matching their seniors with younger volunteers who can pick up their groceries or medications.
Socci got the idea for delivering the flowers to 'Staying Put' seniors because her own mother, who celebrated her 89th birthday this past weekend, lives in Florida, and she knows how it feels to be separated from loved ones during such a difficult time.
This led her to think about the older adults in New Canaan and how COVID-19 has limited their interaction with family, friends, and the community.
She wanted to make sure each of the seniors received a special token of the community’s appreciation of them.
