Lititz Man Sentenced to 4 ½ to 17 Years in Prison After Sexual Abuse Conviction

A Lititz man who was convicted of sexually assaulting two minor victims between 2008 and 2011 was sentenced Monday to 4 ½ to 17 years in prison by Lancaster County President Judge David Ashworth.

Shane E. Richardson, 55 of the 900 block of Fruitville Pike, was convicted by jury of aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 16, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with minor, and indecent assault of a person less than 16 following a four-day trial in June. The jury returned its verdict after about four hours of deliberations.

In January of 2021, the victims reported to Manheim Township Police Department Officer Troy Hikins they had been assaulted by Richardson while residing at his residence after their parents divorced and lost their home. Richardson was a family friend.

After two supporters of the defendant spoke to Judge Ashworth, Richardson took the opportunity to speak as well.

“The entire time you were speaking I was waiting for you to take responsibility for these actions,” Judge Ashworth responded.

The two victims also took the opportunity to speak. One victim thanked Manheim Township Police Department Detective Scott Dierwechter, who filed charges in this case; Assistant District Attorney Amy Muller, who prosecuted the case; and Victim/Witness Advocate Stephanie Wisler for their work in the case. The victim called ADA Muller her hero and mentioned the trio was among the first people to believe her.

“[Richardson] never expressed remorse or acknowledgement,” Muller said at the end of the proceeding. “He’s more concerned about his reputation than what he did to [the victims].”

Richardson will have to register as a lifetime sex offender and have no contact with the victims or their families.
