How were roles decided?

-Auditions had 2 judges who were not related to any of the actors they judged. They used an objective 10 point scale for 5 performance categories.

-Students circled if they were interested a large, small, or a role with no lines and this was taken into consideration as well.

-Students who wanted to sing or dance were put in other scenes.  Due to how rehearsals are scheduled we realized that students could not do both so students wanting to sing and dance were put into dancing (unless they auditioned for a vocal solo) since we have fewer dancers.  They will still be able to learn the refrain and sing along while they dance if they want.

-All students who auditioned for a vocal solo got a solo or a duet for at least part of a song and are singing in every song!  (Except if they are another character in that scene who doesn’t sing or an MC.)

-MC=Master of Ceremonies.  This role is on stage a lot – introducing the songs and providing banter and jokes to tie the 3 main skits together.  The MC role has been split up into 2 trios and the dialogues are labeled in the script.  You guys can have notecards!  It is totally acceptable to use notecards even in the performance.  It’s like the people presenting awards at the Grammy’s.

Cast Posting in alphabetical order of first name.  The 3 main skits are Showbiz, Shoe Store and Pirates with students singing and dancing in the Opener (opening number), Downhearted Blues (singing only) and acting in the Summer Tweener.

PAW is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a grant from

PastedGraphic-1.png

to pay for directors for both shows and a music or vocal director for our spring musical!  A percentage of this grant is allowed to be used to replace our aging set pieces.  This will allow us to save this year's ticket sales and donations to pay for the following year to help the program be sustainable.

This PTSA club performs 2 shows a year -

a fall play (in late Oct or early Nov) and a spring musical (in early May).

Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 2:30-4 or 4:30 for 6 weeks in the fall and 8 weeks in the spring.

Students audition to act in the fall and sing, dance and/or act in the spring.  Students not only operate the lights and sound but also create costumes and set pieces for both shows.

For more information on these Creative Teams and more details about auditions - see the "How do I get involved" page.  The Fall Play begins rehearsing and creating costumes, props and set pieces soon after school begins so it is a great way to meet students.

Past PAW Productions-

These middle school appropriate comedies were chosen because they have large cast sizes with gender flexible roles. Every student who auditions for an acting role will get one.

Fall Play: 30 min comedies perfect for middle school
Spring Musical: A 60 minute Musical Variety show consisting of 3-4 skits containing songs.  Students who act do not need to sing or dance if they don't want to.  There are acting only roles as well as singing or dancing only roles.
