Hi there! Time for a new Paint-A-Flower from Altenew? Don’t mind if I do! Today’s gorgeous bloom is the Zinnia Magellan Rose – a big, bold bloom perfect for your coloring fun! Today’s post is part of a blog hop, and so you were hopefully sent here from the Altenew Card Blog – stay tuned for details of a giveaway to celebrate today’s reveal!

While this bloom is big enough to fill in an entire card front, I wanted to fill my entire panel with them. I stamped them several times with embossing ink onto Altenew Watercolor paper, and heat embossed with Antique Gold embossing powder. I love watercoloring heat embossing – it’s so quick and easy! Those heat embossed raised lines are a natural, non-porous barrier that keeps the paint where you want it.

I painted the flowers using Altenew Watercolor Brush Markers – using the Autumn Festival Set and Spring Garden Set. I chose a few purples and pinks for the florals, and used just one color per flower, focusing the intense color in the centre, and then pulling it out with water towards the edges so they fade out. I did the same thing for the leaves, using green. For my background I used an intense brown – I’m not sure why I chose it but wanted a darker, maybe more earthy look. I like how it turned out and I added plenty of splatters (including a little water)

I trimmed down the piece and adhered it to a white notecard. For my sentiment, I die cut the Be Kind die using vellum and Gold Mirror cardstock layered together and adhered it to the centre of the panel to finish.

  3. Hello from Minneapolis, MN. How amazing is it that Altenew is celebrating their 8th Anniversary, so happy for them. Jenny, the Zinnia, is a beautiful flower to begin with, and I love this flower for the layers of pedals it has as well. You personally captured the right color(s), along with the sentiment is something we all should be thinking about is others and being kind to one another. Thank you for your talents, I look forward to seeing what else you bring to the table moving forward.
