Workshop Descriptions

Winter in the Hub of the Universe: Activities in Boston and the Northeast Boston is a city that’s rich and diverse in history and culture, and winter is a great time for fun, learning and exploring. In this workshop, new and returning students can learn more about the winter activities in Boston and its neighboring areas. Presented by Jimmy Liu.
What Do Multilingual Students Need to Know about ChatGPT? What is ChatGPT? Why is it so popular, and is it okay to use it for academic work? University students need to be aware of both potential benefits and limitations and risks. Join this workshop to learn about using ChatGPT to enhance your learning. Presented by Ilka Kostka, PhD.
Meet a Librarian: Northeastern Library Resources for International Students How do you develop a research topic? How do you find a peer-reviewed journal article? What’s the best database for your research? Get the answers to these questions and more during this presentation about using the resources and services of the Northeastern University Library. Presented by Christine Oka.
Asset-Based Intercultural Volunteering Are you a multilingual student who’d like to get more involved in your community? In this workshop, participants will gain understanding of an approach to volunteering that focuses on the strengths of a community rather than its deficits, including the importance of language. Offered in partnership with Northeastern University Community Service and Civic Engagement and presented by Erin Curley, Lucy Bunning, and Crissy McMartin-Miller.
Small Talk. Big Difference. Sure, small talk has the potential to put people at ease and help us build relationships. But, if it’s called “small talk”, why’s it so hard? In this workshop, we’ll practice strategies to initiate and extend small talk. A little bit of practice can make a big difference. Presented by Lucy Bunning, PhD.
Professional Writing: Email Etiquette How do you address your professor in email? Is it OK to use ChatGPT to write an email to a potential employer? In this workshop, we’ll discuss expectations for email communication in the U.S. Presented by Crissy McMartin-Miller, PhD.
Spring Activities in Boston Spring is here, and so is the time to explore the rich and diverse history and culture in Boston! In this workshop, new and returning students can learn more about the spring activities in Boston and its neighboring areas! Presented by Jimmy Liu.
