Wisdom and Patience

“Count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work . . .If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”- James 1:2-5 NKJV

When you face problems, where do you look for answers? What do you do when backed into a corner? Many turn to friends, or investigate popular responses. Others search the internet or consult some “expert.”

But the Bible urges us to start not with other people but with God! To make our relationship with Him the foundation of our lives. But this approach can be intimidating. Some seem reluctant to ask Almighty God basic questions about our lives.

The Bible encourages us to realize that God wants to guide us. He encourages us to call out to Him for wisdom, remembering that He is ready to give to us “liberally and without reproach.” Not to be afraid or timid but be bold in asking Him for everything we need.

But we also need to remember the importance of persevering and being patient. When experiencing uncertainties, we are not to panic but to “count it all joy.” To cooperate with God in every situation, always staying faithful. Realizing that the testing of our faith produces patience.

We learn that wisdom is not a commodity to be bought but a characteristic to be developed. Wisdom is cultivated as we endure circumstances, and are faithful through trials and uncertainties. Further, wisdom comes in part through patience and the process of waiting on the Lord.

Make sure that you build your life on the foundation of God’s Word. When you face problems, seek Him. Commit your needs to Him and believe Him for the answers. Cry out for the wisdom you need. Apply the principles in the Bible. But always persevere. Always believe. Always trust.

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your promise of wisdom. I seek You for the wisdom I need. Help me to be persistent and faithful. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
