Evening Shadows by Sheila Kell is the first book in the Agents of HIS series. It is also a spinoff of the author’s hit series HIS. The books can be read independently of each other; therefore, readers can jump into Evening Shadows with no need to read the first series.
Being familiar with the author’s work, I expected to be taken on a journey filled with suspense, action, and romance. She did not disappoint. From the moment the story began, I was hooked and had a hard time putting it down. I was eager to know how the events would unfold.
Evening Shadows had all the makings of a good story. Wonderful characters, a fast-paced storyline, great banter, intrigue, and a hot and steamy romance.
In this story, I encountered danger, betrayal, deception, and secrets while trekking through the Mexican jungle. Danger lurked in every corner. Several times, the author had me holding my breath, only to have me breathing a sigh of relief at the last minute.
I enjoyed the time I spent with the characters. I thought Ken and Sam were perfect together. They are both agents of HIS and Ken is Sam’s team leader. Ken has been in love with Sam long before she joined HIS, but because of his dedication to his job and the dangers that come with it he kept his distance. Now fate has granted him a second chance to be with the one woman who held the key to his heart.
Sam is resilient, brave, loyal, and one hell of a sniper. Ken is protective, caring, and a great team leader. I started out disliking him, as he appeared chauvinistic based on his belief that Sam should not be working in the field. However, as the story progressed, I realised his actions stemmed from his fear for her safety and not because he thought, she was incapable being an HIS agent.
They would find themselves in a situation where Sam would become the protector and Ken would find himself relying on her to help him get to safety. Tensions and uncertainties ran high and I feared for them at every turn.
Some of the secondary characters provided great support for the Sam and Ken, but there those who were a thorn in their sides.
Combined they all made for some interesting moments.
Conclusion/Recommendation
To conclude, Evening Shadows was an enjoyable read and one I would recommend to fans of romantic suspense. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

This story will grip you at page one and keep you to the last page. I read it in one sitting. The characters are well developed and the tension increases until you have white knuckles. Sheila Kell made me like Ken in previous HIS books, but Evening Shadows will have you fall right over the edge into love with him. I can't wait to see the next AGENT OF HIS to get his/her HEA.

Wow, after a hiatus Sheila Kell comes back with a “bang”. This book is stuffed with fast paced action, a touch of mystery, romance and is spun into an exciting, unputdownable read. The tactical layout, knowledge, the betrayal by a friend, who is certifiably crazy and the straight forward romance between Ken and Sam, who fight their way through danger, adverse conditions and mayhem takes this story to the top of your TBR list. Don’t miss this one.

I was excited to read the next story from the HIS organisation, and I wasn't disappointed! This one had the danger a little closer to home and Sheila managed to included the right amount of suspense and the right amount of romance.

Received in exchange for a honest review.
I loved the HIS series and was excited to see Sheila Kell was going to write about the other agents. She did not disappoint with this first book in the new series.
Here we see Ken and Sam take center stage. Ken is a kind and caring guy. He had demons in his past he dealt with the best he can and was trying to keep a promise that was hard to do. When we start, Ken is struggling and at a crossroads. He is about to do something that will affect his future and I was so glad that the decision went differently than desired. Why? We wouldn’t get this great story and see just how wonderful Ken is. He takes in consideration all sitautions, everyone’s skills, emotions and all assets and weaknesses when making choices and decisions. He doesn’t take things lightly and is very protective of those around him. Especially Sam. His feelings for Sam shine through in every action and reaction he has in this book. I felt for him when he was teetering on the edge of having his faith and heart broken but was so so glad that turned out better.
Sam joined HIS after Ken and has finally begun to move on after her husband’s death. She loves her team and being around Ken again. She has feelings for Ken and you can see that but she is squashing them for some reason. She hasn’t fully left her old life behind because she still has a friend she is close to even though they are not in the same state. Her dynamic with Ken is one of mutual attraction and respect. Ken has supported her throughout everything she has gone through and she appreciates that but she does sometimes get aggravated with his overprotectiveness.
Sam’s friend Becca to me went off the deep end with the death of her husband. She is angry and bitter and has neglected those who need her for her own reasons and need for revenge. She is one that feels that someone needs to pay for husband’s death and cannot move on until she gets this revenge. She will go to any extreme I believe to do this.
The team around SAm and Ken are great as well. We see some fun banner and a true team and family that they are in. It is a tight knit group that trusts one another and is there for one another no matter what as well. So when Becca’s son is missing they all come to Becca’s aid. Only this takes on some elements beyond what they believe and for Sam and Ken it becomes about survival, trust faith in one another and confronting their feelings and the truth of the situation at hand. A situation that is dangerous in so many ways.
The story is captivating and filled with tension where it is needed, great banter and characters that grab you from the beginning. Some of the bad guys are a grey area for me because you feel that they aren’t completely bad just stuck in a rock and a hard place and truly in the adage love is blind. You are taken on a wild ride frought with danger and intrigue and you are shocked at some of the reveals. The romance is tension filled at first but slowly becomes a scorcher of the kindle as you see Ken and SAm come together and find their way to confront their feelings and be together. A wonderful story and I can’t wait to see what agent is next for a story.

I was first introduced to Ms Kell when she began writing her HIS series. She took a little break from writing and is now back with her new Agents of HIS series. Evening Shadows is the first book in this new series and focuses on Ken Patrick and Samantha Milton. Ken and Sam are agents in the HIS agency. Sam married Ken’s best friend Lance, and while on a military mission an ambush unfortunately killed Lance. A mortally wounded Lance made Ken promise to look after Sam. Years later, Ken, who has always loved Sam, feels that the time is now to make his move. Unfortunately, Sam’s best friend Beverly who’s husband was also killed during the deadly ambush blames Jesse, the co-owner of HIS, and Ken for her husband Adam’s death and wants Sam to help avenge both of their husbands deaths.
I honestly had trouble getting past the first few chapters as I felt the dialogue was a little flat and seemed somewhat repetitive. I never quit on a book because I know that sometimes I have to get a little further into the story for it to grab me, and I’m glad I kept going. Once I was a little further in, the pace and action really picked up and I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. Would Bev’s deception sway Sam into following through with her deadly plan? Would Ken and Sam survive their capture by the gun dealer? Would Bev’s son come out of the experience unharmed?
Ms. Kell did deliver on the action, suspense, intrigue and romance that she is known for. Evening Shadows is a standalone book even though it is part of a series. It is nice to get to know the agents that help make up the HIS agency. I also enjoy a series that keeps the previous characters a part of the storyline. Even though this is a spinoff series, MS. Kell still includes the characters from her original HIS series. I look forward to the next book in the Agent of HIS series.

"When his life depends on the woman who holds secrets, can he trust their love will be enough for her to seek the truth?" I really believe that this sentence pretty much sums up the book, so I won't be really going into much more detail, just how I felt about it all in very simplistic terms so I don't give anything away. I'm going to start out with how Sheila Kell is seriously amazing, and her writing style pulled me right in, was very exciting, and highly addictive. Like I'm saying that I was on the edge of my seat cover to cover with my heart racing like crazy. Ken "Boss" Patrick & Samantha "Sugar" Milton are perfect for each other, though they obviously had some issues, please see above. However, when you're that perfect for each other, there's an off the charts chemistry that just won't take a backseat despite any trust issues. It didn't help that they were on quite the dangerous journey together, and you already know that kind of adrenaline rush will only have the intense chemistry simmering until it explodes everywhere, and it won't take forever before it happens either. Then there's the whole twists & turns factor, which was pure beautiful shocking chaos, so my mouth became pure filthy as I dropped f-bomb after f-bomb. Not to mention that whole angst factor from feeling betrayed & trying to figure out how to solely rely on the person who you have serious trust issues with, well you already know there will be some mistakes made. I'm telling you that this is one of those stories that you should already be running to your nearest one clicking device, and press that button so you can find out how it all pans out. So, I'm going to end this chaotic review which doesn't really describe much at all because I want you to experience the story for yourselves in all it's exciting glory, by HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING TO ALL!

HIS Returns With a Vengeance
I've been missing those fabulous men (and women) of HIS. As the Hamilton brothers have all settled down into domestic bliss and are raising the new generation of strong, smart and sexy Hamiltons, it's time for us to hear more about the other staff members at HIS. This first story featuring Team Leader Ken (AKA- Boss) and the company's best sniper, Sam (AKA- Sugar), is an awesome start.
Sam is one sharp cookie: she's as tough as any of the guys, strong, independent, a crack shot, and a woman who takes her job very seriously. She's well respected and loved by the guys at HIS. Especially by her Team Leader, Ken. Ken's a tough and fair leader, also well respected and trusted by the teams. Ken and Sam have known each other for years. In fact, both Ken and HIS founder Jesse Hamilton were in the same Army Ranger unit with her husband and were with him when he was killed in the line of duty overseas. An event that was tough for all of them to overcome.
This fast-paced story revolves around the kidnapping of the son of another friend killed in the same incident as Sam's husband. Loyalty runs deep with these men, and they're not going to turn their backs on a friend in a time of need, even as this case just seems to get crazier by the minute. This story showcases the strength, honor, respect, dignity, and bonds the men and women of these teams form for each other. They will simply go to any length for another.
As for passion: holy steamy jungle hotness! Sam and Ken have it going on in that delicious slow burn style that could make a woman spontaneously combust! It's just fabulous. In fact, all the elements of this novel- it's epic story line, fascinating characters, intriguing twists, and amazing love stories- combine to make this a remarkable page-turner.

Evening Shadows is the first book in the Agents of HIS series. Ken and Sam have known each other for years, but their time has never been perfect, until now. But when an op brings up old and painful memories, and starts going wrong, will Ken be able to trust Sam, even though she holds his heart?
Oh my goodness, this book is jam packed full of danger, suspense, tension, trust, and a whole lot of love. This story just jumps right in and Ken and Sam just captured my attention right from the very beginning of this book and held it until the end. Ken is strong and determined, he’s one to follow his instincts and I loved that even when he had reason to doubt Sam, he still stuck by her side. Sam goes through so much in this book, I really enjoyed her inner strength to handle the way life threw punches her way. While communication could have been better for her, I loved her trust in her teammates. Plus, she was kind of an amazing warrior and I loved that her quick thinking and skills helped save them when needed. This book is full of action, full of character building and development, and I loved seeing glimpses of the Hamilton crew, but my heart is already opening to these new agents! I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to seeing how the rest of this series is going to go!

He was supposed to be the hero...the protector.
You have to love hero's who when they fall, fall completely with everything in them. Ken has loved Sam for years, is she finally ready for him and his love? Can she prove herself and do the right thing when Ken's life hangs in the balance?
Neither Ken or Sam would hesitate to give their life for Cody's...but first they have to find him and what a puzzle they have been given to solve.
We have waited a long time for this first book in the Agents of HIS series but WOW! Does it pack a punch! Fast paced and full of danger, deceit, flying bullets and a woman out for revenge, no matter what the cost! I have to say one of my fave bits of this and the HIS series before it are the awesome kids, especially when they start a sentance with 'Reagan says...', it makes you chuckle even as you cringe dreading the sentance that will follow!
You have to love hero's who when they fall, fall completely with everything in them. Ken has loved Sam for years, is she finally ready for him and his love? Can she prove herself and do the right thing when Ken's life hangs in the balance?
Neither Ken or Sam would hesitate to give their life for Cody's...but first they have to find him and what a puzzle they have been given to solve.

An amazing start to a new series, Agents of HIS, with new characters as well as known characters making appearances. Ken has been in love with Sam for many years, she’s the widow of one of his best friend’s and now she is on his team. He does everything he can to protect her from the job as he doesn’t want her hurt...ever. Sam has been alone since her husband’s death and joins the Agents of HIS as a sharpshooter. She lost her husband years ago along with her best friend Bev, who also lost her husband in the the same ambush with Jesse and Ken, who survived. When Bev’s son is kidnapped she turns to Sam, who turns to HIS for help, which sets in motion a plan for revenge and Ken and Sam fighting for their lives...who will protect who when it all comes to a head.
I LOVED this read full of suspense, some action and of course sparks between Sam and Ken, which eventually leads to some steamy scenes. I was a bit perturbed at Ken’s archaic views and over protectiveness of Sam, but I liked how he finally leans on her and sees her strength and tenacity. I LOVED Sam, her being able to give as good as she got, and being strong but also being able to see what was really happening and choosing the right path when it mattered. Can’t wait for the next one and the next agent to get their story.

(4.5) I struggled with the rating of 4.5, because even though we met Ken in the original H I S series, hear me out, now. I wasn't loving the "she can't work here, she needs to be safe" - understand yes, as women we feel that way to about men in risky jobs. All's I could think of is I would break the authors heart when I gave my honest review. Than wham, she slapped me upside the head with all the events taking place and Ken was a man I could love and respect. What about Samantha? Woohoo one gutsy sharp shooting H I S member. Suspense, twists and turns, who is telling the truth, who isn't? I could not believe that vindictive crazy witch, and Fin, OMG where was his head in his brief an memorable visit. Cody had me laughing out loud at the end. There is loss, love, torture, hot sex, family and HEA! When Ken started to raise the issue at the end of Samantha working, she grabbed the bull by the horns, and gave facts, and a solution. Are there other solutions, yes, but this worked. When HIS series came to an end, I was so disappointed. I loved that series and the way that HIS is run with everyone being treated as family. So when this series was announced I was overjoyed and eagerly waiting for this to hit my kindle. It did not disappoint. It has all the hallmarks of the HIS series and I lapped up every word like a kid in a sweet shop.
Sam and Ken's story had me on the edge of my seat, biting my finger nails. Ken is very definitely in love with Sam and has been for a really long time. He served with her husband and was with him when he was killed. Sam's best friend lost her husband in the same incident and blames Ken for his death and is hell bent on revenge.
This was action packed, suspenseful read. It had all the feeling of family from all the agents of HIS as they demonstrated time and time again in this book, coming through for their team when it is needed. I really loved this book and I know I am going to continue to love this series as it unfolds. I am already looking forward to the next book in this series.

This is the first book in the spin off of the HIS series. This book is a bit emotional. I have read some of the HIS books but not all and didn’t feel confused. There is cross over with the other series. Ken and Samantha have a history and this book focuses on that history in depth and gives you more of their story moving forward. Samantha’s first husband died in action. Ken was part of his team. Her friend lost her husband in the same incident. However, she hasn’t never moved on. Now her friend’s son was missing and Sam will to whatever she can to find him. Sam soon learns that not everything as it seems with her friend or what she has been told lately. I loved Sam and Ken’s story. Ken loves same with his whole heart. He knows that sometimes the past can take a bit to get over. Sam and Ken go through so much during this book. Sam more than Ken. Sam is pulled in all different directions and will be forced to make some hard decisions. I loved this book so much. It makes me want to go back and read the HIS books I missed. I also look forward to the next book in this series.

She's done it again! I wish we could give more than a measly five stars.
Without giving the plot away, the story is crisp, thoughtful; probably provocative to those that don't like losing control to anyone or men that have protective instincts to those they care about but caring is just that, whatever sex you are; you want to protect without stifling and SK does a masterful job of explaining that while weaving another exciting story.
What can I say other than if hot guys, action and suspense are your thing then make sure you get a copy of Evening Shadows by the mistress of this genre, Sheila Kell. I can promise you won't be disappointed and if you haven't already read her H I S series which this is the first follow on from, then I'll eat my hat if you don't go out and order them to meet the original family. Yes, they are all that good, I promise.

Now working together in H.I.S., Ken wants to take their friendship further, but Sam still has doubts. Especially when her friend Bev finds incriminating against Ken and his boss and former commander, Jesse about their involvement in the deaths of their husbands.
The plot was full of twists and turns, bad guys, deceit, suspense, good guys and of course romance.
The characters were complex, though at times I wanted to shake Ken for his concerns about Sam and her job.

Evening Shadows is the first book in Sheila Kell’s new series, Agents of H.I.S. I was a fan of Ms. Kell’s original HIS series. It was fun catching up with the characters again. I have to be honest. I had a difficult time getting into the storyline. I felt the first part dragged as Ken went back and forth about his loyalty to his friend Lance, and the feelings he had for Sam. While he was searching for his own answers, I felt his thoughts were quite repetitive as he faced her being a member of his team.
As the story picked-up, we were treated to what Ms. Kell does best. The intrigue slowly built with Sam’s friend Bev. Add in the twists and turns, suspense and, of course romance, Evening Shadows turned into a good read.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I’d like to disclose that I received an advance copy. This is my true and honest opinion.

You can tell this is a HIS novel from the level of drama that permeates the pages. This how story was incredibly well out together and researched. Excellently executed and extremely intense.
Love the two main characters for this one. Sam is one of those woman everyone wishes to be; she’s a hardnut, she’s deadly but she’s also kind hearted and loving. Ken didn’t do it for me much, I think the way he was described just didn’t visually appeal to me but his personality was fabulous. He’s a man with a heart and he’s a man who knows what he wants.
The story had me on the edge of the me seat throughout it all. I found it went too fast but that was probably because I was so hooked with what was happening, that I was reading it quick-time.
Fabulous writing style. Very well researched when it comes to the HIS team and agents carried out an op. Can’t wait for more!

I love Sheila Kell’s Hamilton Investigation and Security series, and was eager to read the first title in the spin off series, Agents of His featuring Ken and Samantha. Evening Shadows can easily be read as a standalone, although I highly recommend the HIS series as well.
If you love a title full of action, intrigue, danger, suspense, drama and sexual tension, then Evening Shadows may just be the book for you.

I will start by saying I never get tired of reading the HIS series and now we
have Agents of HIS . This is outstanding . This is Ken and Sam's story . This story took off from the start and was a heck of a rollercoaster ride of suspense and Intrigue thru the entire story . I couldn't put it down . It was action packed from HIS thru the Jungle's of Mexico back to HIS . A definite 5 star read . The story was so descriptive you feel like you're right there with Ken and Sam and the HIS gang . The story is full of twists and turns you never see coming . I highly recommend taking the time to read this story and enjoy .

This is another five star book from Shelia Kell. I have to say she did a fantastic job at giving us a spin-off from her HIS series. I loved the way she brought in several of the main characters from the HIS series. I thought the love story of Ken and Sam was developed through out the book in a very natural way not rushed. It was nice to see them grow together thru all of the obstacles in their way. Shelia did an awesome job at keeping me intrigued thru the entire book with lots of twists and turns. There was a lot of action and suspense in this book that kept me guessing that is for sure. This is a must read book for those of you that like to stay on the edge of your seat turning page after page to find out what happens in the end. I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The constant plot twists really had me on the edge of my seat and I could not put the book down until I finished.
Relationships are always complicated but with Sam and Ken, there is also a deeper element that is explored as more information is revealed. As it is revealed that Sam and Ken have known each other for years and more of their past is revealed, I find my heart going out to both of them. They have both been through so much and are betrayed by someone who should have been someone to lean on.
I love their journey to find their happily ever after and cannot wait for the next book

It has been so long since I've read a HIS story, and I have definitely missed this team! I love a good unrequited love/friends to lovers story, although this one was a little different than expected. Ken has been in love with Samantha since they met, but she married his best friend. Now a widow, she is part of Ken's HIS team. The romance was great and had a slow build to it. There was also lots of action, mystery, and intrigue to keep things spicy. They go on quite a journey here, but I loved every minute of it. I can't wait until book 2!!

I really enjoy the books by Sheila Kell. This one was the first not directly about the Hamilton family, but they do play a role in this one. There were more characters to meet and I look forward to more stories about them. This one focuses on Ken and Sam. They've known each other for a long time and both seem to be ready to make the jump to being more than friends. But then the unexpected happens. The book is full of adventure and is quick paced. Ken is a fabulous hero - I'd take one of him! Sam is a strong heroine. It was also good to revisit the Hamilton family too! I received an advance copy and am voluntarily writing a review.

This is the first book in the series for the agents of H.I.S and what a journey it was. I don't know what I was expecting but this book pleasantly surprised me and checked all of my must-have boxes for an enjoyable read -- romance, mystery and suspense, fast-paced action, interesting characters, and a plot that keeps you guessing. I also appreciated knowing a bit more about Jessie's time in the military. Even though this was Ken and Sam's book, Ms. Kell kept us connected with the Hamilton family as well. A very well thought-out story with the H and h having a great connection. I can't wait until the next book in the series. Five wonderful stars!

A story full of suspense and chemistry. Ken is faced with protecting the one he loves, but not standing in her way of doing what she is good at. Sam loves her job and is extremely good at what she does. Loved the way that the suspense kept you pulled into the story, not wanting to put it down. It shows us that things aren't always what they seem. Sheila is a great storyteller and this book doesn't disappoint. Great start to a new spin-off series. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
