All About Mitsubishi Ducted Heat Pumps in Portland

what Is a ducted heat pump?

A ducted heat pump is an electric system that provides both heating and cooling. The system has an indoor unit that typically replaces an existing gas or electric furnace. It also has an outdoor unit similar to an air conditioner. The hot and cool air produced by the system is delivered to the rooms in your home through your existing ductwork – hence the name, ducted heat pump.

Heat pumps save up to 50% on energy bills relative to conventional electric systems, while delivering the same level of space conditioning (U.S. DOE).

How is that possible? Like your refrigerator, heat pumps use electricity to move heat from a cool space to a warm space, making the cool space cooler and the warm space warmer. Because they move heat rather than generate heat, heat pumps operate much more efficiently than conventional heating and cooling systems. When properly installed, a heat pump can deliver 1.5 to 3-times more heat energy to a home than the electrical energy it consumes.

Is a ducted heat pump right for you?

The first thing to say is it’s worth giving us a call (541.330.8767). This is the easiest way to review options and make a recommendation for cooling your home – Should you consider a ducted heat pump, ductless heat pump, or central air conditioner? A call is a good place to start.

We generally recommend a ducted heat pump if:

  1. You’re interested in adding a cooling system;

  2. Your ductwork is in good condition;

  3. Your heating system is aging or highly inefficient.

An electric furnace and electric baseboard heater are two of the most inefficient, expensive ways to heat your home. Upgrading either of those systems to a heat pump will save a fair amount on your monthly heating bills. Gas furnaces cost less to operate than electric furnaces, but their designed lifespan is about 15 years. If your gas furnace is getting older, you should consider a ducted heat pump as an alternative to installing central AC, then waiting for your furnace to fail.

why the Mitsubishi SVZ?

We find that the Mitsubishi SVZ ducted heat pump works well for a majority of clients in Portland and Central Oregon. There are at least a couple things that set the SVZ apart:

  • It’s reliably energy efficient: Mitsubishi Electric has an outstanding reputation for quality and durability. With proper maintenance, a Mitsubishi SVZ ducted heat pump will perform for more than 20 years. What’s more, each has an ENERGY STAR certification as one of the most efficient systems on the market. See how the operating costs compare to a gas furnace and central AC.

  • Delivers clean air for your home: The SVZ comes with a blue-enzyme anti-allergen filter, which reduces germs, bacteria, and viruses in the air that you breath at home. It also helps to trap dust, pollens, mites, and other particles that plague those with allergies.

The last thing to know as you get started is that the cash incentives are strong, and Craft3 offers low-interest financing for ducted heat pump installations. Click here to learn more about rebates and financing for ducted heat pumps in Oregon.
