EUGENE, Ore. – Katie Rainsberger ran potentially her final race in a Husky singlet tonight at the U.S. Olympic Trials, and fittingly she broke the School Record one final time. The 13-time All-American and NCAA bronze medalist finished 10th in the steeplechase today, second among collegiates, to highlight a busy day at Hayward Field for UW present and past.
 
Rainsberger took two more seconds off her record with a time of 9:30.18, in a Trials final that ranked as the fastest in history. It marked four consecutive sub-9:37.00 steeplechases for Rainsberger since the semis of NCAA Outdoors on June 11.
 
In the same final, former Husky All-American Mel Lawrence also ran a personal-best, as she finished seventh overall in 9:26.15.
 
Pac-12 Champion Elijah Mason made his Olympic Trials debut today, and just barely missed out on the finals in the discus by one place, and one inch. Mason, who just finished his sophomore outdoor season at UW, had one of his best series of the season today, as he threw over 192-feet on all three attempts. His best of 194-0 was good for 13th overall.
 
2020 Husky grad Olivia Gruver easily advanced into the finals in the women's pole vault today. Gruver cleared three heights, with just one miss on her card, ending with a make at 14-feet, 9-inches, to move on to Saturday's final. Gruver has the Olympic Standard in hand so a top-three finish will earn her a trip to Tokyo.
 
Current sophomore Cass Elliott made his Olympic Trials debut today as well, and he finished 19th overall in the 400-meter hurdles first round, running a time of 51.19.
 
Heat three of the men's 1,500-meters first round had current Husky volunteer assistant coach Sam Prakel as well as 2016 grad Izaic Yorks. Both were able to advance to the semifinals, with Prakel winning the heat in 3:39.02, and Yorks running 3:40.18 to move on.
