The International Low Grade Glioma Registry

An international effort to advance the study of low grade glioma

An unanswered question in neuro-oncology is: How should we best treat persons with low grade glioma brain tumors?

The International Low Grade Glioma Registry is a partnership of researchers, clinicians, patients, and care partners working together to reduce this knowledge gap.

The Low Grade Glioma Registry is unique because it focuses specifically on persons initially diagnosed with low grade glioma brain tumors (grade 2 or 3), as opposed to those diagnosed with high grade glioma (HGG) such as glioblastoma.

What do we hope to learn?

Through the Low Grade Glioma Registry, we hope to learn more about the effects treatments have on the daily life of patients and care partners.

The Registry has several goals:

  1. Discover why some people develop glioma while other people do not

  2. Examine whether variations in inherited tumor genes are associated with glioma and with response to treatment

  3. Study how lifestyle factors such as diet, activity level, and occupation may be related with glioma risk and outcomes

Where do Low Grade Glioma Registry participants reside?

Students at the Yale School of Public Health participated in a map-design contest to reflect where participants in the International Low Grade Glioma Registry reside (data as of 11/1/2022). Out of the 70 participating students, the Research Advisory Council at OPTIMUM (a study within the LGG Registry) recognizes Wanjing Chen’s excellent work, displayed above.

Fostering Collaboration: Patients & Researchers Come Together

The Low Grade Glioma Registry is run by Dr. Elizabeth B. Claus, MD-PhD, at the Yale School of Public Health. A main goal of the Low Grade Glioma Registry is to partner with patients, develop a cohort of individuals interested in low grade glioma research, and design research questions that are important to people facing these tumors. We firmly believe that collaboration between patients and investigators across the world holds the key to advancing our understanding of low grade glioma management and evolution.
