India– A fire that broke out at the Dzukou Valley, a famous tourist spot in Nagaland on Saturday, continued to rage causing extensive damage to the ecological hotspot.
Official sources said the fire in the valley, which falls under Kohima district, was spotted by one of the officers of the Forest Department and the matter reported forthwith.
A team, comprising personnel from the forest department, police and district administration, has rushed up to the site in the valley to access the situation and possible means of dousing the fire, he informed, adding more details would be available only after their return.
The cause of the fire and extent of damage were yet to be ascertained, he stated.
A huge part of the western fringes of Dzukou was lost in a major fire that broke out January 2010.
The blaze that lasted for six whole days had devoured more than 15 sq km of prime habitat of jungle fowls and other wild animals.
Dzukou Valley is situated at an altitude of 2438 meter above sea the level, behind the Japfu Peak and has continuously been under immense fire threat. (UNI)
