Before baseball’s full spate of opening day games gets underway on Monday, MLB Network will debut a new morning show, MLB Central, from a brand new, 8,000 square foot studio named “Studio 21” in honor of Roberto Clemente.

According to a network press release, the show aims to provide news, highlights, analysis and interviews every weekday morning. Matt Vasgersian will host the show alongside Lauren Shehadi and former MLB player Mark DeRosa.

“The three of us who are on every day, we all love the product,” Vasgersian told USA TODAY Sports by phone. “There’s something about watching people who like what they’re talking about that translates well. You could put us in the back of a bar someplace or in a flatbed truck, and we’re still going to have fun talking about baseball. The studio, it being so high tech and cool, is just an added bonus.”

The studio, which will also be used for two of the network’s existing programs, featured 1,400 square feet worth of LED paneling on the walls and 14 55-inch monitors that can rotate or move up and down in sync.

“It’s exciting, because it’s new,” Vasgersian said. “But it seems to perfectly blend the kind of Star Trek television age that we’re in with the warmth that you want of something that’s going to be on for three hours every day.”

The show’s Monday premiere will include a studio tour and on-field footage of Clemente.
