CASS COUNTY, N.D. (Valley News Live) - The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is informing the public of a new scam tactic in the F-M area causing concern.

They say the scammer’s call comes from (701) 253-0994. The scammer indicates the victim has a warrant for Failure to Appear for jury duty. The scammer instructed the victim to bring $3,000 to one of several local businesses to have them transfer funds.

The Sheriff’s Office says the scammers went so far as to text a copy of a fake warrant with the victim’s name. The photo above is the fake warrant they provided.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind the public to remain vigilant if they receive a phone call or text message from a ”deputy” within the Sheriff’s Office.

If at any time you don’t feel the circumstances are adding up, simply end the phone conversation, call the Red River Regional Dispatch Center at (701) 451-7660, and request to speak with a deputy. Dispatch will transfer the call to an on-shift Deputy, and the Deputy will assist in providing legitimacy to the original phone call.

They say they prefer someone follow the verification process rather than falling victim to a scam.
