Project Overview

What's New!  ~September 19, 2023~

The Morehead City Plan 2032 was recommended for adoption by the Planning Board on July 18, 2023, adopted by the Morehead City Council on August 8, 2023, and certified by the North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission on September 19, 2023. We extend a special thank you to the residents, business owners, and stakeholders who offered their time and perspectives in the creation of the plan. Everyone’s input and enthusiasm are greatly appreciated.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?

The Morehead City Plan 2032 will be the first of its kind in Town. It will provide a vision for the future of the community along with the steps needed to make that vision a reality. The plan will place a strong emphasis on implementation to guide the Town’s near- and long-term decision-making and investment. We need your input to make this plan a reality!

What is the Outcome of the Plan?

The key outcome of the plan will be a Future Land Use Map that will guide future growth and development in the Town. A series of framework elements will be created in support of the land use strategies. These framework elements will touch on topics such as:

  • Transportation and Mobility
  • Economic Development
  • Housing
  • Natural Resources and the Environment
  • Arts and Culture
  • Parks, Recreation, and Open Space
  • Infrastructure and Services
