Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) is a federal regulatory requirement, but it is also an approach to care that requires specific staff competency as well as a system of care delivery to achieve the intent of the regulation and provide the necessary support to care for residents who may suffer from trauma. Developed in partnership with AAPACN, this certificate program is designed to provide education that will assist facility leaders in implementing TIC in their facility with staff who are appropriately trained and competent to care for residents who are at risk for re-traumatization. 

Following this on-demand workshop, you will be able to:

  • Define Trauma-Informed Care and identify its six key principles
  • Coordinate the IDT to design a process that supports collaboration for Trauma-Informed Care
  • Identify the necessary areas to implement Trauma-Informed Care
Two certificates can be awarded upon successful completion of the program:
  1. You must have completed at least 80% of the educational activity to be eligible for 5.10 continuing education hours (CEs) from both the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
  2.  You must take and pass the final exam with a score of at least 70% to receive 5.75 continuing education hours (CEs) from the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB).

Pamela Truscott, MSN, RN, DNS-CT, QCP is the Director, Clinical and Regulatory Services with the American Health Care Association (AHCA).  She joined the AHCA family in June 2019 and has been actively involved with a variety of education, tools, and resources such as: trauma-informed care, behavioral health, functional outcomes improvement, and infection prevention and control.  Prior to joining AHCA, Pam worked for the Nebraska Health Care Association as the Vice President of Professional Development for seven years.  She is an active member of the American Nurses Association as well as the American Association of Post-Acute Care Nurses.  Pam has over 20 years of long-term care experience and shares a passion for growing education and cultivating new leaders in long-term care.  

Dr. Anna Fisher, DHA, CMDCP, CDP

Dr. Anna Fisher,  DHA, CMDCP, CDP, is a Certified Montessori Dementia Care Practitioner and Director of Quality & Education at Hillcrest Health Services and is responsible for quality and education services for assisted living, memory support, adult day services, in-patient rehabilitation, outpatient therapy, home health care, private duty, telehealth, hospice, and skilled nursing care. She is also an adjunct professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at Bellevue University.

Dr. Fisher is a Clinical Practice Committee Member, Emergency Preparedness Committee Member, and Silver Quality Award Senior Examiner for the American Health Care Association (AHCA) / National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL). Most recently, she serves as a leadership member of the Pioneer Network Artifacts 2.0 Advisory Group, Nebraska Culture Change Coalition, and the Developmental Disabilities Aging Coalition.

Denise Winzeler BSN, RN, LNHA, DNS-CT, QCP

Curriculum Development Specialist

American Association of Post-Acute Care Nursing (AAPACN)

Denise is a curriculum development specialist for AAPACN. She started her career as a nursing assistant and has served in a variety of roles, including ADNS, DNS, LNHA, regional consultant, and divisional consultant. She has extensive experience in providing clinical oversight, monitoring, and education. She has been instrumental in developing and implementing policies and procedures for multiple long-term care companies. Denise also has over 10 years of experience as a legal nurse consultant, including review of litigation cases and trial appearances. She received her bachelor of science in nursing from Ohio Wesleyan University and her nursing home administrator core of knowledge from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Alexis Roam, MSN, RN-BC, DNS-CT, QCP

Curriculum Development Specialist

American Association of Post-Acute Care Nursing (AAPACN)

Alexis is a curriculum development specialist for AAPACN. She started her career as a certified nurse assistant and has served in a variety of roles including DNS, MDS Coordinator, and nursing instructor. Alexis was a Program Manager for the QIO, Primaris assisting skilled communities with their quality improvement efforts. During her tenure at the QIO she developed tools, resources, and presented to various stakeholders on a variety of clinical and workplace topics. Alexis has served as a regional nurse and a clinical consultant assisting skilled communities with clinical operations, compliance, and risk management. She is passionate about post-acute care and has held a board member position with her state AHCA affiliate and her state’s board of nursing home administrators. Alexis also teaches a leadership development program for the University of Missouri.
