The author of numerous award-winning science-fiction novels, our guest speaker Arkady Martine is also an accomplished Byzantine historian, who holds a PhD from Rutgers. She is also a frequent contributor to public-facing journals and newspapers, often (but not exclusively) on medieval topics. To participate in this session, we ask that you please submit one or more questions or themes which you would like our guest to discuss. Topics may include the synthesis of artistic and scholarly pursuits; the possible uses of non-traditional genres in academic settings; methods of teaching writing, whether academic or creative (or both!); career pathways outside of (or adjacent to) the academy; etc.
