We are excited to begin accepting applications for the Jewish Learning Fellowship for Spring 2023!
This semester, we will be offering two JLF cohorts, each focused on a different curriculum! Below are descriptions of each.
Life's Big Questions: This cohort will explore questions like, “How do we disagree?” “How do I understand myself in the context of my relationships (with family, friends, etc.)?” "What is Jewish identity?" and “What do we do when bad things happen to good people?”. The kind of stuff you think about when you’re doing your laundry or pondering existence, but don’t often have time to think about otherwise. Most importantly, we will be thinking about these questions in the context of community-- together, at Yale, and within Jewish community more broadly.
Pursuing Justice: This cohort will explore questions like, "How might Jewish tradition help us understand the kind of commitments we want to make and the actions we want to take to build a more just world? For whom are we responsible? What wisdom can Judaism shed on the ways ethics, power, and action play out in the world around us? How might we mobilize for change?" We will think about these questions grounded in our own social and political context and with a goal of action.
We make no claims about the “right” way to practice or not to practice Judaism. Our goal is to help you explore the tradition in a welcoming and warm space in conversation with a diverse group of people. That means we’ll ask a lot of big questions here, but we don’t purport to have any of the big answers and certainly no definitive ones.
Students who participate in at least 8 weeks of the fellowship will receive a $300 stipend.
