This unique watercolour event is open to everyone. Our professional artists will offer diverse perspectives in watercolour.  Hands-on participation will be an exciting opportunity for artists from beginners to advanced. Are you looking for an art getaway? Look no further.

The week starts with an exhibition from Monday to Saturday. Monday to Thursday are studio workshops and plein-air sessions, Friday is a guest artist presentation and Saturday is a plein air contest.

Studio Workshops and Plein Air Demonstrations – Monday 22nd -Thursday 25th

Registration opens: May 1st, 2022

Our power packed offerings are conducted by our stimulating and award-winning instructors, Leslie Lambert and Tom Young. Studio classes run from 9am-4pm (with a one-hour lunch break). Plein Air demonstration are from 10am-2pm.

Each instructor is offering both a 2-day studio workshop and a 2-day plein air demonstration in the Harrison Hot Springs area.

Classes are small for social distancing and are available on a first come, first served basis.

About Our Instructors

Your Instructors Tom Young and Leslie Lambert will be teaching from the District of Kent in Harrison Hot Springs at Ranger Station Gallery. An incredible location!

Tom Young – CSPWC, MCP

Tom became a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC/SCPA) in 1999; later, in 2018 he became a member of the International Watercolor Society Canada (IWS Canada). In 2000, one of his early paintings was added to the CSPWC watercolours series in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle, England. Other early works have been carried by galleries in Waterton and Banff National Parks, Canmore, Regina, and other locations in Saskatchewan. His watercolours have been juried into international exhibitions in France, Vietnam, and nationally in Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.

In 2021, Tom was featured in “Water Color Artist” Magazine and his water colours appeared in the Southwest Magazine Invitational, an on-line art fair out of the United States. Today his art continues to be recognized internationally, nationally, and locally in galleries and exhibitions.

Tom has conducted numerous water colour workshops and enjoys assisting others in furthering their art. His workshops have been described as inspirational and informative and are of interest to both less experienced and advanced artists. Many who have taken his workshops, return to advance their interest in water colours and enjoy their easy-going interactive atmosphere.

Tom Young will explore colour and harmony in your paintings.  Learn to paint expressive works from images. Tom will provide guidance in what to look for in your image and simplify the details and the process. For more information and Tom’s Bio go to tomyoungartist.ca/about-tom/

Leslie Lambert – CSPWC, MFAEd

Leslie Lambert (also known as Leslie Lambert Redhead) is an artist, teacher, illustrator, and author known for her dramatic watercolours. Her art focuses on the combination of spontaneity and detail that watercolour has to offer. She continues to explore the possibilities and pushes the medium beyond its limitations to achieve luminous and incredible results.

Leslie’s paintings are in private and corporate collections worldwide. She has a Master of Education in Art Education and holds signatures with Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS) and the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC), Leslie conducts workshops in Canada, the U.S., and Spain. She currently resides near Spokane, WA.

Her work is featured in Splash 10: Passionate Brushstrokes from the Splash: Best of Watercolor Series, Leslie Redhead: the life of an artist, and Making It! Case Studies of Successful Canadian Artists. She is the author of Watercolor 365 and illustrator the children’s book, Island in the Salish Sea by Sheryl McFarlane.

Now enjoy a hands-on, step by step guided experience pouring pigment; learn from award winning artist Leslie Lambert. A fun and explorative way to revel in watercolour. ‘INSPIRATIONS’ Art Exhibit – August 22 – 27, 2022

Submissions open: Wednesday June 1st, 2022

Submissions close: Wednesday Aug 10, 2022

Location: Ranger Station Art Gallery, 98 Rockwell Dr., Harrison Hot Springs, BC V0M 1K0 

Submission Fee – FREE

Who can enter: The Exhibit is open to Members and Associates of CSPWC (see our website for more info on membership – cspwc.ca)

  • Size: Maximum of 15”x22” inches/vertical or horizontal orientation

All selected paintings must be professionally framed with a label at the back of the painting showing the name of the artist, title of the artwork, size and price. 

Paintings are to be hand delivered to Ranger Station Gallery on Sunday Aug 21 and the intake time is 10 am till 2 pm.  If you wish to deliver the painting on a different day prior to Aug 21, please email the Regional Director, Alice Bottrill, directly to make special arrangements – alicebottrill@shaw.ca

30% Commission on all art sales go to Kent Harrison Arts Council, 70% go to the artist.

Guest Speaker Presentation – by David McEown on Friday – 1 pm to 3 pm (FREE)

On Friday August 26 we are offering a free event included with your registration. Limited seating.

A dynamic presenter: David McEown will be sharing his adventures and experience of painting grizzly bears in Northern BC, with stories of the Spirit Bear that are sure to astound.

Date: August 27/Sat, 2022 Time: 10 am – 3 pm. 

Registration: 9:30 am at Ranger Station Gallery, Harrison Hot Springs, BC

1st Prize: l’Aquarelle Watercolour Set of 24 Half-Pans by Sennelier (Value $279)

2nd Prize: Irodori Artists’ Gouache Set, 12 Tubes in Fall Palette by Holbein (Value $140)

ENTRY FEE: $20.00 (non-refundable)

Rules:  Open competition- one entry per artist. The painting must be done en Plein Air without the use of photography on a blank paper stamped at the Registration site within the time of the contest from 10am – 3pm, August 26.  (You can request more than one w/c paper to be stamped) Maximum size of paper 15”x 22”, no minimum size. 

Where to Paint:  Anywhere in Harrison Hot Springs or around the Harrison River Valley areas around the community of Agassiz.

Turn in Finished Work at 3:00 pm   – one painting per participant only (stamp visible on the back of the submitted painting) submitted at the same place you registered in the morning no later than 3:00 pm. 

Jurors will announce the results of the prize awards at 5:00 pm at the Ranger Station Gallery.  Presentation of awards to the winners at 5:30 pm. 

Note: Registrants signed up for instructional studio workshops or plein air field trips may also register for the Plein Air contest, but must pay the additional $20.00 Entry Fee  

This contest is open to all watercolourists and registration is open till 30 min. (9:30 am) before the event starts at 10am on Saturday, August 27th.

Volunteering – You can select from the rota of dates, times and tasks through the link to our schedule here: SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER . Volunteers with 10+ hours are invited to join instructors and board members for a dinner on Tuesday at 6:30pm.

CANCELLATIONS:  Participants who wish to cancel their place in a 2 day workshop must notify CSPWC/SCPA office in writing to qualify for refunds.

Please see the following cancellation policy: 

  • Cancellations on or before August 7th will receive a refund, minus a $50 non-refundable deposit. 
  • Cancellations after August 7th will not receive any refund.
  • If the CSPWC cancels, there will be a full refund paid back to the participants.

Location and Accommodations:

All participants are to arrange their own hotel or other accommodations and meals.  The Harrison Hot Springs Resort has offered CSPWC a special rate for this event and has kindly set aside a block of rooms from which to choose; however, as this is completely your choice, you may choose any accommodation in the area.
