HOME STUDENT HEALTH SCREENER QUESTIONS
Parents,

Information from SJCSD dated April 15, 2021

CDC updates regarding quarantine requirements after vaccination:

  • Individuals who have been fully vaccinated – that is, 2 weeks or more have passed since the second dose in a 2-dose vaccine or the first dose in a 1-dose vaccine series – will not be required to quarantine following exposure, provided he/she does not develop new symptoms of COVID-19.

The Department of Health (DOH) requests that we follow the current contact tracing protocol, regardless of vaccination status. They will contact exposed individuals to ensure no symptoms have developed, research his/her vaccination status in the state system, and provide further COVID education. The DOH will determine if the individual is exempt from quarantine. The Health Services Department, as well as the school nurses, will work diligently to assist students, parents and staff in this process.

This has been updated on our District Health Services webpage.

National Cyber Scholarship Foundation recognizes Matthew Fernandez for outstanding achievement

St Johns, FL, 18 May - Matthew Fernandez a senior at Creekside High School, has been named a Scholar in the National Cyber Scholarship Competition (NCSC), a rigorous 48-hour online competition sponsored by The National Cyber Scholarship Foundation (NCSF). In recognition of his achievement, Matthew earned an invitation to participate in the Cyber Foundations Academy – a multi-week online program based on the nationally-recognized SANS Foundations training course and certification. In addition, he was awarded a scholarship to the U.S. college of his choice. He plans to attend University of North Florida in fall 2021 to pursue study related to cybersecurity.
Matthew competed against 5,000 high school students in a cybersecurity competition designed to challenge its participants to solve computer security problems and/or capture and defend computer systems. In total, 50,000 students nationwide sought to qualify for the NCSC; with just 10% meeting the requirements. Way to go Matthew!

Resources for Parents - Talking With Children About Tragic Events
In the days and weeks following a high-profile tragedy kids may have a lot of questions about whether something like this could happen to them. In fact, parents themselves may have a lot of worries about the safety of raising children in this world. It’s normal for both adults and kids to feel anxious after such a publicly devastating event, but there are some links to resources you can choose from to help minimize the stress and maintain a sense of safety and normalcy. The links include tips on how to talk to children of all ages as well as how to address media coverage. If your child needs counseling support, please contact your school counselor.     https://www.stjohns.k12.fl.us/guidance/parents/resources/
