Community Rally

Join us on Saturday 7 May to call on Federal Election candidates to protect critically endangered Lawson Grasslands.

  • Hear from expert speakers about why grasslands are as important as rainforests!
  • Learn about the animals and plants that live there.
  • Find out what’s driving Defence Housing Australia’s development plans for the site.

With less than 1% of grasslands like Lawson formally protected, Defence Housing Australia’s (DHA) application to build at the site is clearly unacceptable, and should be dismissed under our national environment laws.

The natural values at Lawson are not only locally significant, but nationally. The site contains large areas of critically endangered Grasslands and Woodlands that are home to many extraordinary and vulnerable species including,  The Golden Sun Moth, Perunga Grasshopper, and Keys Matchstick Grasshopper.

Despite its incredible significance there is no guarantee that our national environment laws will protect Lawson Grasslands. Until now, federal environment laws have failed to stop environmentally damaging developments, but Canberran’s won’t let that happen in our backyard.

Already more than 100 experts and environmental organisations have spoken out against this development, and over 600 have signed a petition calling on DHA not to proceed. Join us on May 7 to add your voice to the calls to save Lawson Grasslands!
