School of Nursing 85th Anniversary Event
Saint Xavier and Mercy Hospital launched the first integrated baccalaureate nursing program in Illinois in 1935, integrating Saint Xavier's general education program with hospital-based laboratory courses and clinical practice hours to create an intensive four-year collegiate nursing curriculum. In 1939, four students were the first to graduate from the Collegiate School of Nursing.
