Lauren Williams

Lauren Williams is an alumna of the CSULB journalism program who currently serves as the university’s Senior Communications Counsel in the Strategic Communications division at Cal State Long Beach. As part of her work, she analyzes the university’s response to ongoing reputational issues and determines appropriate responses and mediums in which they’re shared.

In this capacity she assists the university in anticipating and responding to issues that could potentially threaten the university’s brand. Before working as Senior Communications Counsel, she worked as a senior writer at the university.

Before returning to Cal State Long Beach, Lauren worked for more than 10 years as a working journalist, most recently as a science and environment reporter in Southern California News Group where she was published across 11 newspapers in Southern California. She’s covered Orange County’s largest mass shooting, interviewed murderers in jail, hiked with world class scientists investigating fungi, and covered the 8.8 earthquake that rocked Chile in 2010. She’s been published in the Los Angeles Times, Atlas Obscura, ReWire magazine among others.
