In this new webinar series, Georgia State University CIBER features conversations with senior business executives on current business climate and the role of transformative leadership in times of rapid change.
Our distinguished guest on October 1 will be Steven C. Voorhees, who has served as chief executive officer and president of WestRock Company since July 2015. WestRock is a multinational provider of paper and packaging solutions for consumer and corrugated packaging markets. It provides differentiated paper and packaging solutions that help customers win in the marketplace. WestRock serves its customers around the world from its operating and business locations in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Steve Voorhees will be interviewed by Professor Richard Phillips, Dean of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. Conversation will address issues including WestRock’s response to the global pandemic, impact on supply chain operations, implementation of key initiatives such as sustainable operations and enhancing diversity and inclusivity, and management of an organization with a global footprint.

Steve Voorhees is chief executive officer of WestRock, a leading provider of differentiated paper and packaging solutions and one of FORTUNE’s World’s Most Admired Companies. Prior to his current role, Steve was CEO of RockTenn and also served in various executive leadership roles, including president and chief operating officer; executive vice president and chief financial officer; and chief administrative officer.
Steve is a member of the board of directors of WestRock, Truist Financial Corporation, the National Association of Manufacturers, 3DE, the American Forest & Paper Association and the Paper and Packaging Board.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and mathematics from Northwestern University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.

Richard Phillips is the seventh dean of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. Since 2014 he has overseen the school’s transformation to produce graduates ready to deliver value in the digital era by investing in STEM areas and integrating them into core activities. Students now connect these analytical skills with business concepts that allow them to innovate in rapidly changing environments.
Dean Phillips is the C.V. Starr Professor of Risk Management & Insurance. He has produced more than 50 scholarly publications and received several research awards. He is a corporate director at Munich American Reassurance Corporation, senior consultant with Charles River Associates, past president of the American Risk & Insurance Association and the Risk Theory Society, trustee for the S.S. Huebner Foundation, board member for the World Affairs Council of Atlanta, and board chair emeritus for The Swift School – a private school serving dyslexic children in Georgia.
