Employment Interest Form: Virtual Student Support Monitor (Part-time & Seasonal)

Founded in 1979 by Dr. Julian Stanley, the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) is a nonprofit dedicated to identifying and developing the talents of academically advanced K-12 students around the world. We provide today’s brightest students with fun, challenging courses; a community of engaged learners; and a strong foundation for future success in college and their careers. Each year, CTY serves over 20,000 students by providing a wide variety of programs delivered in both in-person and online learning environments.

Overview of Distance Learning Programs

  • CTY L.I.V.E (Live Interactive Virtual Explorations)
    • Offers a blend of live online instructor-led activity and independent learning that includes discussions, class projects, and interactive exercises designed to foster community in a digital environment. The program's instructor-developed courses are limited to about 10 students per section and focus on a range of engaging topics taught by instructors who specialize in teaching advanced students.
  • Problem-Based Learning
    • CTY’s problem-based online courses blend real-time, collaborative, student-directed learning and independent exploration to solve complex, real-world problems. Course are grounded in problem-based learning and are interdisciplinary.

Student Support Monitor Position Overview

The next sessions begin in September 2021. All roles that support distance learning programs are part-time/casual and 100% telework.

Duties:

  • Provide supervision of CTY students in grades 2-12 in session-based CTY Online courses (L.I.V.E. and PBL) who are using the Microsoft Office 365 Teams platform to interact virtually on an ad hoc basis outside scheduled class times using the “Meet Now” feature of the platform. 
  • Student Support Monitors help ensure that students follow CTY’s expectations for students conduct; they address student behavior that is unsafe, disruptive or otherwise inappropriate or unacceptable following CTY protocols. 
  • Respond to student safety emergencies (e.g. student appears to be in imminent danger to self or others) and document incidents and concerns according to CTY protocols.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • At least 2 semesters (including summer terms) working with children.
  • Experience using online educational tools such as Zoom, Teams, Office 365.

Desired Availability:

  •  Next session (Fall) begins in September2021 and ends in December 2021. No activities will take place Thanksgiving week. 
  • 8-10 hours weekly
    • Late-night, over-night, early-morning, daytime, or evening shifts.  CTY will be offering virtual spaces for students to schedule ad hoc gatherings. CTY students are located all over the globe. Due to time differences, rooms and forums will require 24/7 monitoring. All shift times will be based on EST. 

Salary:

  •  $15.00 per hour
