Press associations and a human rights group have condemned the vandalization of Papuan journalist Victor Mambor’s car and have voiced concerns about press freedom in Indonesia’s easternmost province.

Victor is the editor of Jubi, a newspaper published in Jayapura, Papua. He also writes for The Jakarta Post

According to the Jayapura branch of Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI), several unidentified people damaged Victor’s car sometime between 12 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Wednesday. The car was parked on the side of the road near the journalist’s house.

“The assailants threw several objects at the car’s windshield, as well as its front and rear left windows. They presumably hit the windows with blunt objects,” AJI Jayapura head Lucky Ireeuw said on Thursday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.

He added that the assailants had marked the front and rear left doors of the car with orange paint.
