A delegation from the Arab League met ousted Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on Sunday for "lengthy talks" on challenges facing the transitional process and efforts to support dialogue, the regional organization said in a statement.

The Arab League delegation called for Sudanese parties to stick to the democratic transition process and indicated a breakthrough is anticipated for the announcement of the formation of a new Sovereignty Council consisting of 14 members, Saudi Arabia's Al-Arabiya TV channel reported Monday.

The delegation had held discussions earlier on Sunday with army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan who said he will not participate in any government that comes after a transitional period.

Talks to resolve Sudan's political crisis have hit "semi-deadlock" because the military has refused to return to a path of democratic transition, two sources from the ousted government told Reuters on Saturday.

Sudanese pro-democracy groups launched two days of civil disobedience and strikes on Sunday in protest against last month's military takeover, though participation appeared to be limited by continuing interruptions to internet and phone connections.
