Thailand eases entry rules despite omicron surge

Move aimed at boosting vital tourism sector, but Ukraine crisis clouds future

BANGKOK -- Thailand will ease requirements for its quarantine-free entry program from March 1, even as the country fights its largest infection rate since the pandemic began due to surging cases caused by the omicron variant of COVID-19.

Visitors must take a PCR test upon entry then perform a self-test with an antigen kit on the fifth day of their stay. Previously, travelers had to take a PCR test on the first and fifth day, show proof of a hotel reservation, then wait at the hotel throughout the first five days pending test results.
