The anti-Taliban resistance forces in Panjshir reportedly hit Taliban fighters as they tried to enter the Valley through Gulbahar, TOLO news presenter Muslim Shirzad said in a tweet. The Taliban have blocked the main road by container. The clashes are underway.

"Hours ago, Taliban terrorists wanted through the Kotal-khawak attack in Panjshir but got into an NRF ambush. As a result, 41 Taliban killed, 20 captured and prisoned. As a commander, Hasib said: "We'll let you enter the Valley, but not let out", [sic]" the Northern Alliance said in a late night tweet.

Meanwhile, a Taliban spokesperson said Panjshir was under complete siege. But the Northern alliance claimed the upper hand in Panjshir, saying, "The NRF got many new American vehicles, weapons and ammunitions as a trophy."

The Taliban had also launched an attack on Monday night in Panjshir where resistance forces are holding a last stand against the outfit in Afghanistan. Fahim Dashty, the spokesperson of Ahmad Massoud who is leading a resistance movement to the Taliban, had said seven-eight Taliban fighters were killed in a fight that broke out in Panjshir valley on Monday night.

The focus of the Taliban is now shifting to Panjshir valley to thwart the spirited resistance being led by Ahmad Massoud and Amrullah Saleh. Earlier, Taliban claimed they have since retaken those areas, though neighbouring Panjshir in the Hindu Kush mountains remains the only one of Afghanistan's 34 provinces not under its control.

The Taliban have shut internet and closed down essential supplies to the Panjshir valley. While the valley had enough stock to last through the winters, with more and more Afghans going to Panjshir to seek protection from the Taliban, resources could become scarce.
