They say success is the best revenge.

I say it isn’t enough.

I’ve spent the last twenty years building my empire, but I’ll never forget the gutters I had to crawl through to get here. Or the enemy who made it that way. Kevin Cryson, the man who destroyed my life. It isn’t enough to build my own empire if I can’t crush his.

Luckily, I’ve found his weak spot. The perfect lure in the form of a brown-eyed devil with chestnut hair and a deviant smile. The princess he never should’ve let leave the castle.

They say revenge makes people bitter.

I’ve never tasted anything so sweet.

*Julius is complete story with a guaranteed HEA and NO cliffhanger. It is set in the same world as the interconnected standalone series Darker Places, but the series is not necessary to read in order to enjoy Julius. This book is a dark romance, and thus contains dark subject matter. Reader discretion is advised.

This was my first but certainly not my last read by this author as I really enjoyed it. Julius wants revenge and he will do anything to get it. Little does Lane realise that sneaking into a club will change her life forever.

This was a great read full of suspense, secrets and twists. Can’t wait to read more from this author.

After reading Julius I want to go back and read the Darker Series as this was a great read.

“He’s the monster in my dreams, but he isn’t hiding under the bed. He’s turning on the light and showing me all the other creatures in my room. Dark and disgusting.”

REVIEW OF STORY:
Julius has been planning his revenge for years. When he finally hires a man to kidnap the daughter of his victim, he’s given the wrong woman, causing Julius to completely revamp his plans. Not only is Julius forced to reconstruct his lifelong revenge plans, but of course, feelings develop between him and his captor, Laney.

Laney herself is an innovative character. Having grown up on the property of a women’s shelter in Italy, Julius exposes her to a life she doesn’t remember living. He also brings her sexual fantasies to life.

JULIUS is so so so much more than your typical abduction story!!!! Years of deception and corruption result in abuse and neglect for Julius and feelings of betrayal for Laney. When they join forces, nothing goes as predicted + their romance is off the charts hot!!! This is one of the most innovative books I’ve read in a long time! I was glued to the pages, often surprised and consistently entertained!!!

The only negative about this book is that there were gaps in the storyline, and it contained a lot of errors. For details on those issues, continue reading below! Otherwise, this is where my review ends!!!

REVIEW OF PROOFREADING:
To start with, there were typos such as always using the word MIGHT when it should’ve been MAY, ONTO instead of ON TO, ABANDON when it should’ve been ABANDONED, INTO although it should’ve been IN TO, INFLAMES for FLAMES, ON instead of IN, IN instead of ON, WENT when it should’ve been GONE, and FURTHER when it should have been FARTHER.

Brand names weren’t always capitalized, and according to the CMOS, ellipses we’re not documented correctly. When in the middle of a sentence, ellipses should have spaces on BOTH sides. However, in this book, ellipses were followed by a space on the right side only (for example, “that… not”).

The most common mistakes were regarding COMMAS:
-The FANBOYS rule was followed quite often, but not all of the time.
-Commas were not always placed before pronouns (for example, “You aren’t a good actress Laney”).
-Introductory words and phrases were not always followed by commas.
-Rules for commas and the word OH we’re not followed (for example, “Oh my God” should have been, “Oh, my God”).
-OF COURSE was not always surrounded by commas when in the middle of a sentence.
-TOO was occasionally surrounded by commas when it was in the middle of the sentence and could be replaced by the word.
-TOO was occasionally preceded by a comma when it was The last word in a sentence, yet sometimes it was not. Either way is correct as long as it is consistent throughout the manuscript.
-THOUGH was occasionally surrounded by commas when it was in the middle of the sentence and could be replaced by the word.
-THOUGH was occasionally preceded by a comma when it was The last word in a sentence, yet sometimes it was not. Either way is correct as long as it is consistent throughout the manuscript.
-When EITHER was the last word in a sentence, it was occasionally preceded by a comma, sometimes not. Either way is correct as long as you’re consistent throughout the manuscript which was not the case here.

REVIEW OF EDITING:
Unfortunately, there were quite a few inconsistencies and gaps in the storyline. For example, we are specifically told, “...there isn’t a mirror in the room”, yet literally five paragraphs later it says, “I bring the mirror down from my face and look at him.” Also, one of the characters is cut, then less than 10 minutes later we are told that he has, “fresh stitches” even though the character never got any stitches. Same with when they go to the kitchen to eat beans yet make pancakes...

***Fortunately, all of these are things most readers won’t even notice, are super easy to fix (I’d love to work with you, Nicole😉) and didn’t diminish how how much I enjoy this fabulous story!!!!

Oh, I enjoyed this dark romance a LOT! It is interesting and is stemmed from revenge, but revenge is not always what it seems, especially when it is not exactly delivered the way that you thought it would be. There are a lot of different twists and turns in this book and I absolutely loved them!

All in all if you are a fan of dark captive romances, this will be right up your alley. Nicole does a great job of keeping the right amount of heat and intrigue and definitely keeps you entertained! I give it a 4.5 and enjoyed it immensely!

PS: I would like to thank Nicole Cypher and Give Me Books PR for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly.

I tried I really tried to find a good reason for this story. If you like tasting your limits on some Stockholm syndrome story this could be a nice story to entertain you. But go in with an open mind, because it's really going to challenge you.
Can't tell more because that would mean to spoil. But this go around revenge, dirt, secrets, some kinky fantasies and more...

Sometimes a little white light can change everything. Laney and Emma have spent most of their lives sheltered and constantly being watched by their seemingly overprotective family. When the girls decide to have some fun by sneaking into a club for Emma’s birthday, they don’t see what harm it can do...after all, no one will know. What is supposed to be a night of freedom for them turns into something out of the nightmares they have always been warned about.

“My world goes dark as soon as my head hits the ground.”

Julius has waited a long time to exact revenge on the man who took everything from him and his brother. His perfect plan is finally ready and it’ll be game, set, match. But the incompetent kidnapper he hired unzips the suitcase with the wrong girl in there. Julius planned, executed and waited for Kevin Cryson’s daughter to be at his mercy. The pawn that he would use to bring down their empire but his niece will have to do.

“Twenty years I’ve crawled my way through the gutters to get to this step. The first flick of the domino that will send my enemy’s empire to the ground, just as he made my own crumble.”

This story revolves around Jules thirst for revenge but sometimes the most careful laid plans can change when the unexpected is thrown in the mix. That unexpected comes in the form of Laney, the girl who was supposed to be a means to an end but somehow turned into much more along the way. Both of them are trying to find the truth buried beneath all the mystery surrounding their families. Laney is supposed to be Jules’ prisoner but her demons are calling to his and their relationship moves past revenge. Will that be enough for Jules...can he forget the sins of the past?

“There aren’t any take backs. There aren’t any safe words. It’s me handing him the power to do what he wants to me.”

This is my first book by this author and though it’s part of the Darker Places series it can be read as a stand alone. I love a good dark romance and the whole kidnap and revenge twist was a great added bonus. For me with dark romance, it’s the darker the better...give me the super twisted, I’ll gladly take it. While this story did promise us dark sadly for me, it just wasn’t there and didn’t work for me. It wasn’t very heavy and while I like the whole storyline there just wasn’t a lot to hold onto to. With the kidnap aspect, I need more of a buildup, more of a power play and this story just turned too quickly. Way too quickly. Jules was basically a kitten. I did however like his brother. There was a lot at the beginning surrounding revenge and Laney’s family and I felt like that all sort of got lost for a while. There were just a lot of holes and I had a hard time staying connected. It was an okay read but unfortunately not a favorite for me. I’m sure there will be others who will love it.

“I’m Lainey Miller, daughter of a crime lord. Heartache to my family. Lover of a sadist. And what I want is Julius.”

This storyline is about lies, betrayal, humiliation and maybe, just maybe, redemption. When all comes out in the open, choices will be made. Minds will be changed and all those lies and betrayals will be exposed. And the collateral damage is off the charts. “Oh! What A Tangled Web We Weave When First We Practice To Deceive"

Julius is out for revenge. He’s plotted it, planned it and is ready to deliver it. Laney just wants her freedom. She’s been protected all her life…. in her eyes, over protected. Little does she know, it was for her best interest.

When Julius and Laney meet, it certainly isn’t love at first sight. Nope, forget that. Laney is his target …. well, Julius will settle for Laney as his target. It was a kidnapping gone bad. But, he will make due.

Problem is, Julius didn’t count on Laney’s feisty persona. Nor did he count on her being able to break down walls he had so carefully built up over the past 20 years. Yes, this revenge to take place was 20 years in the making. It started before Laney was born. It started with families deep within the criminal world. Families involved in just about every perversion you could imagine. Families that had to be stopped. And they were … they were stopped by one of their own.

Just who are the good guys here? Who are the bad guys? Can they be one in the same? Can the word ‘TRUST’ even be in their vocabulary?

👁 OBSERVATIONS:

Wow…. this is a hard one. The storyline is good, the writing is good and I loved how the family ties were woven together. Good suspense, good plot and good character depiction.

So why the three stars? I gave five stars to the actual plot line and character development. But I gave one star to all the detailed kink. I don’t classify dark romance as smutty kink and torture. So, I found myself skimming way to much to get to the interesting parts of the story.

Loved the ending and loved the growth of the characters.

This is a great twisted and in-depth story that captured my interest from the beginning. It is a darker story than I was expecting which was a welcomed surprise. The author gave me just the right amount of information so I wasn’t overwhelmed while keeping me interested in the building storyline. I felt on edge for most of the story so it definitely wasn’t a relaxing read.

The dual POV helped me connect to these complex and detailed characters who had amazing chemistry and just the right amount of steam. Julius is an interesting character. I wasn’t sure if I liked him or not but there was something about him that pulled me in. He comes across hard and uncaring in the beginning although as I got deeper into his story and learned more about him my feelings changed. His story is sad and it’s been eating at him his whole life. I was thankful that they helped him find a healthier solution so he could move forward.

Laney is great! She‘s strong and determined and I found myself giving her many virtual high fives. She’s definitely was not going to make it easy on Julius, their back and forth was fun to read. He’s also good at predicting her movements or intentions. So it’s always a win when she catches him off guard. I enjoyed her thoughts as she processed the information as well as her feelings about her current and future outcome.

This is a spinoff to the Darker Places series. I’m definitely interested in going back to read that series and meeting a younger Julius while digging deeper into his family’s past.

This book is a stand alone work, but reading the other four books in the "Darker Places" series gives you a deeper backstory to the main character's motivation. Julius was part of a powerful crime family, now dismantled. He and his younger brother grew up displaced and, at least for Julius, angry and nurturing a need for revenge on the remaining family he feels abandoned them. The story revolves around the evolution of Julius' revenge, and the young woman, Laney, who is the tool of choice for that revenge. This is a dark romance, and has the edge, tension, violence, and sex you would expect. But not necessarily in the way you would expect them. This is the first book I've read in a long time that I was sorely tempted to skip to the last chapter to end the suspense (and make sure both characters were still breathing before getting any more invested in them). I didn't, and enjoyed the suspense that carried the story along. Dark romances tend to explore one of my favorite themes - redemption. This book follows that journey with both characters in different ways.
If you enjoy falling into a character's mind, excavating their soul, and coming out the other side with them, you will enjoy this book.

I just couldn’t put this book down! It is that amazing! Julius is a self-made millionaire who lives for revenge against a family that has wronged him terribly. He has tracked down the family who lives under a different last name and who operates The Miller House, a place in Italy, that protects women who are addicts wanting to get clean, or hides women who have escaped from an abusive past. He has targeted their one weak link, the daughter of Kevin Miller.

He hires a man to kidnap Emma and smuggle her into New York, but the kidnapper never expects to meet Laney, Emma’s cousin and best friend, who fights him like a wildcat so that Emma can escape. He ends up taking Laney to Julius instead and expects to still be compensated in full for delivering a girl who is still a family member.

Julius locks Laney into a basement room and ignores her, except to give her 3 cans of beans and 3 bottles of water every day, as he works out the details to sell her back to her family.

As they spend more time together, they realize they are drawn to one another and then.......you just have to read it!

This book is action-packed, heartbreaking, dangerous, and dark. I couldn’t get enough! This is the first book I’ve read by the author but you bet it won’t be the last! Lawd!

Dark and Delicious!

This story is phenomenal! It's dark, twisted, slightly depraved and utterly delicious. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, completely captivated and enthralled with the characters. There are so many secrets that slowly get revealed throughout the story it might have your head spinning and your jaw dropping. I was in shock at some of the twists that were thrown in! It's an amazing, wild roller-coaster ride of action, suspense and so much intrigue from beginning to end!

Julius is a very dark and angry man. He is hell bent on revenge and will do anything to get it. But then in comes Laney, who turns his world upside down. Laney is one smart, witty, strong and very fierce woman. She knows just how to get Julius angry and turned on at the same time. These two characters come from completely different backgrounds but there is something about them that pulls them together. The chemistry is crazy intense and there is so much tension, violence and sex with these two that you need to hold on tight to your seat because it gets wild!

This is one amazing dark romance that you won't want to miss out on. This amazing author knows just how to keep us captivated and highly entertained! Brilliantly written and very thrilling to read. Highly recommend.

Julius is a successful billionaire that dragged himself up from what his childhood created. The son of a murdered mafia kingpin, Julius has created an honest living for himself treating all other local wannabe kingpins with disdain but never forgiving the man who murdered his father and set off the whole chain of events, his uncle. When the kidnapping of his cousin goes pear shaped and he ends up with the wrong woman, a young woman who has been brought up to think that her uncle is just that, Julius decides to make the best of the botched situation. He enlightens the feisty Laney, telling her the truth about who she really is, all the while hoping to break her and ultimately end up with his uncle coming to her rescue. He keeps her prisoner in what is usually his ‘play room’ where he usually lives out his proclivities in private. When he recognises that Laney has led a sheltered life, but has so much in common with him, their captor/prisoner dynamic takes a different turn. This is a brilliant, well written and interesting book. The characters are three dimensional and believable and the dynamic between Julius and Laney dark but entertaining. Absolutely fantastic!

Nicole Cypher is a new name on my favorites list, and I'm obsessed! I'm a dark & twisty person, so Julius was right up my dark alley to be honest. That's not to say that I don't become enraged throughout, because I did. However, that's the mark of a great book, if my emotions are pulled out in all the good & bad ways, because it becomes an experience rather than just something to read. Julius has become extremely successful but it wasn't even one bit easy, and now that he has pretty much achieved what he set out to achieve, he's on the path to revenge, and Lane is his tool to get it. This story was filled with twists & turns, to where I dropped so many f-bombs that my voice started getting hoarse from the volume. Not to mention, it kept me on the edge of my seat cover to cover, and I didn't budge until the very last page was inhaled. This story isn't hearts & flowers, but it is realistic in my opinion, since people are flawed, so it's time for you to hit that one click button to see how it all plays out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Julius can’t see anything other than his revenge and the path to his revenge. His mind is set on how to get pay back for the tragedy that he lived through as a child. Unfortunately, it will include a woman he has never met, but knows will get the pay back he wants.

Laney has lived a sheltered life and at the age of 19 she is ready to get away from her family and live her life on her own terms. Little does she know that her whole life has been a lie. She will learn the dangers that lurk in the world when she tries to protect her cousin from a kidnapper only to become his victim.

This was a good story, it took me a bit to get into it at the beginning for some reason, but once I got into it, I enjoyed it. The secrets that Laney discovers about her family and her true life could ruin her innocence, and captive is determined to do that as well as make her see the truth about her family. If you enjoy suspense, mafia, revenge, or bully stories, you will enjoy Julius. I give the story a 3.5-star review.

Julius is the first book I have read by Nicole Cypher and it sealed the deal to add a new favorite author to my list.

Julius and Laney's story is sexy, explosive and most definitely a page turner. How they meet is less than ideal putting it mildly and there is so much chemistry between these two. "Up until now we've been two enemies, dancing between a line of hatred and lust that neither of us was willing to admit existed."

Laney is feisty, strong and determined while Julius' past controls not only his life but his future. "He's the monster in my dreams, but he isn't hiding under the bed." Nicole keeps the reader vested in these characters because you don't know how it is all going to play out once the cards are all on the table.

I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end and I signed up for the author's newsletter just so I could have a little bit more of Julius with an exclusive extended epilogue.

Julius is out for revenge. The man and his princess who destroyed his life. It hasn't been easy for Julius to rebuild his empire. Kevin Cryson will pay the price!!

When Laney and Emma decided to sneak into a club little did Laney know that her world would be spiraling downwards.

One simple job! Kidnap the blonde! Julius was furious that his contact had kidnapoed the wrong girl!

"He collapses on top of me, his breath tickling my ear. Every time he exhales, I absorb some of his pain. And every time he inhales, he takes some of mine. Give and take. Over and over. Nothing has ever felt so right."

As the story unfolds we learn of betrayal, secrets revealed, lies exposed, retribution and suspense. Not all appears as it seems.

I strongly recommend Julius!!

Loved this dark twisted tale.

Julius has waited twenty years to get revenge on the person he fee!s is responsible for ruining his life. He goes after the man's daughter, only to end up with his 'niece' instead. Laney has no idea who the man that kidnapped her is, but she finds herself drawn to his dark tastes and she feels messed up about that. Julius plans to use Laney as part of his revenge scheme and then get rid of her, but doesn't count on the fact that he might be drawn to her and the way she reacts to him. This is a wonderful dark, twisted romance and I highly recommend it!

It's a story of revenge that had me on the edge , turning the pages as fast as I could and kept me glued to the pages from start to finish. This was a dark captive read that I enjoyed immensely. I really liked Julius. He was a man that just hurt so deeply from a terrible past, and he had no outlet. There was nobody that he ever could let in. Laney was a great character. She had such a great personality and was strong enough to deal with all the crap Julius put her through. Her spirit was what I loved the most. It had a great amount of steam. I could just see the devious grins from Julius and the smirks from Laney. Good read.

Revenge is always messy. Dark romance at it's finest here. Julius has the wrong girl, but Laney is very stubborn and strong. Through what he puts her through and what information Laney finds out, had me on the edge of my seat the entire book. I love how the characters developed through the story. You will not be disappointed and you have the HEA everyone always wants. Plus more.

I really liked the flow of this book, but I wasn't expecting it to be what it was. I am not a huge fan of stories where the kidnappee falls for her kidnapper. I know that there was more to this story, but he essentially tortured her and then they fell in love. I did like that there was a happy ending, but it still wasn't my favorite type of story.

Julius by Nicole Cypher is the story of Laney and Julius.
Julius is a dark man set on revenge toward Kevin Cryson. Thinking he finally has his chance by hiring someone to kidnap Mr. Cryson's daughter and using her to bring the man down. But they made a mistake in who they kidnapped now Julius has Laney. Although she is who he wanted she still might be a way to get his revenge. But Laney brings something out in him that he can't seem to stop.

This is a dark but intense book full of many twist and turns with plenty of drama that unfolds slowly at first but than it picks up. Julius is out for revenge and has one of his man to kidnap his enemies daughter. Lanie is kidnapped by mistake. The characters are well developed and engaging with plenty of chemistry. The storyline flowed slowly at the beginning but does pickup giving us. Great time.

Revenge can be a great motivator that drives you forward but what happens when it turns its head back to bite you? Julius and Laney are two very strong, independent individuals that are drawn to one another. This is one crazy, hot story with some great twists and a little darkness along the way. I found myself glued to my device and constantly reading, just one more page. Great read, enjoy!
