A Bump in the Road

Rate this book
Pregnant at 15.
These are the words I didn’t think I would ever have to live with.
Alex and I thought we were careful.
Becoming accidentally pregnant was obviously written in the stars for me.
I can’t know what the future holds, or if Alex will even stick around.
But the one thing I know for sure; I’ll turn this hardship into a blessing.
With or without anyone else.

NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLING AUTHOR OF UGLY AND MISTRUST

**Write something worth reading**

I'm Margaret and I'm a self-published author.
Recently I was fortunate in obtaining New York Times best selling status on my YA/NA book - Ugly, and my YA book - Mistrust.

My last three books have been YA and I'm completely in love with the genre. I love being able to communicate with people through my words and stories.

My writing genres all differ, but the one thing I keep consistent is my heroines. All my female lead characters are strong, gutsy and not the 'perfect' woman. While my books all have romantic elements in them, they aren't just about the romance. They're about finding strength, acceptance and making life long connections.

I hope you enjoy my stories as much as I have while writing them.

I don't know if its because I discovered this author then immediately read every single thing I could find on kindle unlimited or what one after the other until I was completely done with all of her books available on KU, but it seemed like every book was the same, just different plots. I do like how the author takes a subject that isn't super duper rosey and lovely, and writes about it, but at the same time, I feel like every single book needs to have more angst in it for the topic that it covers. Most of the characters despite having gone through trauma that would cause the most normal person to break down, they are all so rosey and light. Even during dark moments everything is just so light. All of the books even the darkest one of them all have a lightness to them.

This one was about a 15 year old pregnant girl, aside from the boys mother everyone is rosey about the situation, I was expecting her to get shipped off to some school for unwed mothers or something dramatic, but nothing like that happened. Everything was peachy keen. I did wish that the space between the birth and the epilogue was a little bit more covered, it would be nice to see how she dealt with the midnight crying fests or juggling education and baby or whatever, or if the grandparents all stepped in to save the day.

Everything about this book annoyed me. I understand that Andy was 15 but apart from all the self pity she seemed more mature than the some of the adults. 2 doctors made their distaste know about a teen mum...aren't doctors there to help you not judge you so openly? Alex's mum was a total bitch. Andy got kicked out of school for being pregnant....I'm not sure that's even legal. Best thing would be for a 15 year old to get some support and as much education as she can get no?

Over all too much drama and too many people giving their opinions or worrying about what people thought of them.

This was a good read and Andy was such a strong person for only being 15 when she got pregnant. She was a lot more mature than a lot of the adults around her. I was very disappointed in the ending though.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s different for Margaret, but still phenomenal. I like how Margaret takes a sensitive subject, this time about teen pregnancy, and writes it in a way where we feel for the characters.
Margaret is a great storyteller. I highly recommend Margaret’s books.

I wasn't sure at first about this but once I got a few pages in I found I really liked the story and this was a very wow story at least for me it was. I couldn't begin to imagine how it would feel to be in this position but I loved where Margaret took this book.

Another 5 star read!

I knew going in to this read that would love it because of the author. I wasn't expecting to be completely blown away with the twists that kept the story moving forward. Definitely recommend worthy, definitely go back and read again and again worth. Another stellar book and characters!

When Margaret McHeyzer publishes a book, I read it. Having been a follower of hers for quite some time now. Her books have always hit the nail on the head when I read them. This one though, the hammer hit my thumb instead of the nail.

I really enjoyed the concept of this book. Reading the blurb, I instantly one clicked when it published. Hearing how a 15 year old would handle getting pregnant and what comes after. How would the boyfriend be after hearing and what happens down the road. We all know how this happens its the after effect of the finding out you are pregnant at 15 is what would have sucked me in.

We get a glimpse of the after effect in an epilogue that is 8 years out. But nothing from the day the baby was born until 8 years out. Gahhhh, this is what I needed. More of that 8 years that we missed out on.

As always, the writing is wonderful and the story flowed. Just not my favorite by this author.

Where do I begin... I’m so conflicted with how to rate this book. Being a teen mom myself, I knew I had to pick this one up. That’s about as far as Andy and I could relate though...

I almost didn’t finish it because Andy’s thoughts just irritated me like no other. I spent majority of the booking saying get over yourself already. I kept reminding myself, yes, she is 15. But even then, get over yourself!

Nobody cares about someone else being pregnant THAT MUCH. She was obsessed with what everyone else thought and that just didn’t work for me.

I wanted to read drama, conflict related to the baby and her relationship with her boyfriend but majority of the book just fell flat for me. I did want to know what happens.. Margaret is a great writer this one just didn’t jive with me.

Amazing, but... 🙂

Truly amazing book! It's unfortunate that Andy, and Alex didn't stay together, but that's life sometimes, and I'm happy things worked out well for them in the end anyway. 😀

This book had so much potential but it just fell short. I really had to push myself to finish so I could see how it ended. But I have questions that were left unanswered.

This book was okay, hard to finish and I did not like the ending. It has some strong characters that I liked but it definitely reminded me why YA is not a genre I typically enjoy.

This is an amazing book, all of the author's books are.

But after reading almost all the the books, I just feel the ending not satisfactory. As another person said in a review, it's all good good stuff.

Yes there were accidents happening at the almost end of the book but we never got to see any of the real problem. When I started this book I thought people would be mean and judgemental and they are but they don't appear often.

And somehow it's a book with a heavy topic but light mood thoughout. Nonetheless it's a 5 star read and a must.

Awesome story😊

This story was Fantastic!!. Sad, exciting, entertaining and interesting!!!. It was so sad😭 because she was 15years old and pregnant😢. But I have seen a couple of 13 year olds pregnant so, so sad😭. But it is what it is. I personally would NEVER shame someone about it, just saying, if you don't have anything nice, good to say keep your mouth shut!!. Great story😊 and PHENOMENAL writer. Margaret is all this and more😊.

The story of 15 and pregnant is a old tale however this story gives it a new a fresh face.

Damn where to start! This book got me hooked and was quite an amazing story of what young girls face in our society which is sad and cruel! I enjoyed reading this book and I think it would be a great book for teens to read.

Interesting story line and takes you every step of the way. From being in school to when the child is 8.
