Today, we released the Q2 2022 Houzz U.S. Renovation Barometer, which tracks residential renovation market expectations for construction and design professionals. Among the many insights we gathered from pros on Houzz, which you can read about here, one detail stood out from the rest.

This is the first quarter where we’ve seen widespread concern over rising costs, especially gas prices. The impact to the renovation and design sector comes through increased costs for shipping products and materials. Some pros are also reconsidering their service areas and the distance to drive to potential job sites — one mentioned that gasoline prices are “making me more selective about clients and their location.” Technology like our Houzz Pro marketing and business management software can help reduce the need for in-person meetings with tools like video meetings, esignatures and online payments.

Construction pros are reporting three month delays before they can begin work on a new mid-sized project, and architecture and design pros have backlogs of nearly two months, so factors such as travel expenses have become a priority in deciding whether to take on a project.

Residential renovation and design professionals are confident that activity will continue through the quarter despite headwinds, like inflation, impacting the industry overall. Read the complete reports for the construction sector and the architectural and design services sector, for more information on expectations for the quarter, recent business activity from Q1 2022 and detailed national and regional backlog data.
