The videos will have a slide to present yourself and your thesis and a slide with your thesis content.
Details regarding how to record the videos are included below.

The winners will be announced during the live event, during which we'll stream the videos.

Please fill out this form to be a competitor in the Three Minute Thesis competition sponsored by GWISE and Snell Library.

***HERE ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR A VIDEO SUBMISSION***

We are excited to hear about your work and display the cool research conducted by our grads.
**We are still seeking presenters; please let your friends know and encourage them to sign up here! We've extended the submission deadline, so it's not too late!**

Here are some rules for you to follow when developing your presentation and video:
- A single static slide is permitted for the thesis presentation (content slide). No slide transitions, animations, or 'movement' of any description are allowed.
- No additional electronic media (e.g., sound and video files) are permitted.
- No additional props (e.g., costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted.
- Presentations are limited to 3 minutes maximum and competitors exceeding 3 minutes are disqualified.
- Presentations are to be spoken word (e.g., no poems, raps or songs).
- Presentations are considered to have commenced when the content slide is showing.
- The decision of the adjudicating panel is final.
- Since this year's event is virtual, we will be asking for you to record your presentation in a single video that contains your introduction and your presentation.

If you have not done so already, please make sure to familiarize yourself with these virtual competition rules as you prepare your talk. Our Competition will have two important differences from these official rules:

1) You will have 20 seconds and a title slide at the beginning of your video to introduce yourself.
See the attached screenshot as an example. Your title slide must contain:
- the final title of your talk
- your full name
- your college (fully spelled out, please! e.g. College of Engineering)
- your degree and stage (e.g. Ph.D. Candidate) and department (e.g. Civil and Environmental Engineering)

For example:
Talk Title Here
Miyuki Gomez
Northeastern University College of Science
M.S. Candidate in Biotechnology

2) Slide full screen; small video upper right corner
For your presentation, we would like your slide to be widescreen, and your video to be in the upper left corner. We prefer you to record your talk on Zoom. See the attached screenshot as an example of where we would like your video placed. Remember that you can only have one single slide for your presentation, and the presentation must be 3 minutes or less. Any videos with more than one slide or that contain a thesis presentation longer than 3 minutes will be disqualified from the competition.

For some inspiration and examples, we recommend you watch some presentations by previous winners. (These are from in-person events, but the presentation content of the virtual competition will be judged similarly.)

Please send us your video by Sunday, Nov 29th so we can compile it into our event.
We also have support from the Digital Communications Specialist at Snell Library, Kate Kryder. If you would like to consult with Kate, schedule a time here, or reach out to her directly at k.kryder@northeastern.edu

We'll have the judges deliberate and then announce the winners at the end of the event. We will also have a people's choice category where the audience will vote for their favorite talk. If you are unable to stay for the duration of the event, please let us know. We will have three judges from across the schools and departments at Northeastern.

Please reach out to us if you have any questions!

Thank you and best of luck to everyone!

Sincerely
Miyuki Gomez and Sara Falleni, 3MT event organizers
and the GWISE EBoard
