Learning Curves

Rate this book
Learning Curves is a single dad, enemies to lovers, plus-size/curvy romcom with a teacher everyone wished they had in school and a swoon-worthy dad who would do anything for his daughter.

To Spencer, women only left pain and destruction in their wake. The only good thing that came from his ex was his daughter Annabelle. And right now, his only focus was making sure she was taken care of and was getting the help she needed with her learning disabilities. Even if that meant moving to a new town and starting over.

Ellie spent her childhood being judged and bullied because of her learning disabilities. Joke's on them because she's now the top special education teacher in her area. She's extremely protective of her kids, even if that means going toe-to-toe with their parents. See, Ellie totally had her life together.

Well, kind of. Maybe… Okay, really, she's a word-vomiting, curvy, hot mess who hasn't had a date in years with a diva of a dog who's determined to get a second, third, and fourth dinner every day. But that was fine. It was always fine. Until one disastrous parent-teacher conference with her new student's father turned her world upside down.

Now she couldn't get the agitating single dad out of her mind no matter how hard she tried.

Learning Curves is a stand alone romantic comedy by Molly O’Hare. This is one of those books that you just can’t help but to smile most of the way through with the crazy antics of the heroine and her dog. But, I want to warn you that towards the end, my eyes watered. They were happy tears, from the sweetest of moments. But that water just couldn’t help but to leak out of my eyes.

cute 9 year old girl - Google Search

Spencer Hurley is a single father of the most adorable nine year old little girl you have ever seen, Annabelle (Belle.) Belle suffers from learning disorders. After Spencer realized how Belle was being treated at school by her teachers, he did his research, packed them up, and moved to where there was a school with a special education teacher who has earned the reputation for being the best. When it comes to his daughter, Spencer will do whatever is necessary to help her.

Ellie Ryan grew up with learning disabilities. She knew what it was like to be bullied. To feel like she was less than. But she defied them all, went to college, graduated at the top of her class, and became a special education teacher. Her students are like her own children. She’ll do whatever she can to help them or protect them.

Ellie has a border collie, Roxy, who seems more half human than dog. This dog is hilarious and has everyone wrapped around her little paw. She also likes to eat, a lot!!!

border collie holding food bowl in mouth - Google Search

Ellie is kind of a mess. She really is a talented teacher. But getting to work on time doesn’t happen often. Getting her dog to listen to her doesn’t either. And let’s just say that she can kind of be aggressive when she gets angry. In a funny way. Her best friend, Sally, is her life line. And don’t even get me started on her parents! They are hilarious.

When Belle walks into Ellie’s classroom for the first time, its pretty much love at first sight for the both of them. But, when Ellie meets Belle’s dad, Spencer, for the first time, things don’t go as well. Neither of them can stop thinking about the other, though. There is something there, and it’s not going to go away.

“One thing he knew for sure, he was in for a wild ride when it came to Ellie. And he liked it.”

Love <3

If you want a fun, sweet escape with characters with no filter, and secondary characters you can’t help but love, then you should definitely grab this book. Finding a reason to smile is always a good thing.

‘Learning Curves’ is a laugh out loud romantic comedy I did not expect. Seriously people, laugh out loud.

Our lead heroine, Ellie, was so damn relatable. She was filled with sass, passion, and moments you can’t help but find her epic fail moments endearing. The chemistry between Spencer and Ellie was scorching hot and despite what is notated on the blurb, I wouldn't necessarily call them enemies turned lovers, since they were upset with each other for what? 1-2 chapters max before Spencer decided to pounce and take a bite of his daughter’s teacher he’s been fantasizing about since the get-go.

Moreso, the secondary characters such as Spencer and Ellie's parents were phenomenal. They held nothing back and had no shame. I loved every single moment of it and if you want to know what exactly they have no shame about, pick this up now. No seriously. Pick it up.

In addition to that, I had enjoyed how the author also touched base on learning disabilities and disabilities in general, and how anyone can conquer them and still succeed. It was refreshing to see realistic characters that anyone could relate to.

Now that you read my little rant, there were a few things that could’ve been done better for this to be a 5 star rated book. Like the ending. Like what the fuck. It was so rushed and abrupt that I had to re-read what I had read to make sure I was reading it right. It definitely didn’t transition to the smooth ending it deserved. So much happened, very abrupt need I remind you, in one chapter that it sorta kinda made my enjoyable reading experience diminish a little. On top of that, the intimate moments shared between the main characters could have easily been edited out and left as an allusion that sexy times did occur. 2-3 lines didn’t cut it and felt pretty pointless to include. Lastly, the instant love. Nuff said.

Nevertheless, ‘Learning Curves’ is worth checking out if you’re looking for fun and related characters, an actual romantic comedy, and swoon worthy moments.

What an amazing heartfelt story. This story wasn't just about the hero and heroine finding a happily ever after. It was also about encouraging a little girl to keep going even when she was brought down and told she can't do what other kids does.

Spencer Hurley is a single father to an funny, sweet adorable little girl, Annabelle (Belle). They left their previous home as Belle was being bullied at school because she has some learning difficulties. Now Spencer has found a school that caters to Belle's needs and he hopes this is the right fit for her. And then he meets Belle's teacher, Ellie Ryan. And from the first moment they met it wasn't a good start. Spencer thought that Ellie was just like all the other teachers, and even though he has an attraction to her, his little girl comes first. And then he got to know Ellie. And found out some things that make her totally perfect for him and his little girl.

Ellie Ryan had some difficulties growing up. She had learning problems and because of that she worked ten times harder than other kids and today she is a special needs teacher and will do anything and everything to protect her kids. So when she met Spencer Hurley and he made her feel bad about herself and who she is, she wrote him off. Till she met his little girl and fell in love and gave maybe the universe is also telling her to give him another chance. And maybe Spencer and Belle is just what Ellie and her dog Roxy needs in their lives ❤ 😊

I loved this story. It was like hilariously funny and sweet and romantic and so much more. I loved Spencer and how he took care of his little girl and also how he took to Ellie after all the mis understanding were sorted. Ellie was my hero. She had some learning problems but she didn't let that stand in her way of being who she wanted to be. And she loved her kids and would do anything for them. Belle was cute and adorable and just had an answer for everything and not to mention Roxy the dog, freaking hilarious❤ 😊 I hope that Ellie's bff will be getting her story soon ❤ 😊

This book is a laugh out loud, make you swoon, heartwarming romance read. Once again Molly O’Hare reeled me in and kept me glued to my kindle as I fell in love with Spencer and Ellie over and over again.
Learning Curves is:
📚A sexy forbidden romance.
📚He’s a sexy, single daddy.
📚She’s his daughter’s teacher.
📚He has sworn off women and love after a disastrous relationship that ruined him and hurt his baby girl.
📚She is an advocate for all children especially those like her who suffer from learning disabilities.
📚Together they are a match made in sexy times and wit filled banter heaven.
📚Add in his crazy father, her insane parents, the best BFF ever, a boss who she lives to torture and the funniest dog you have ever met, AND that my friends is what makes this book the phenomenal read that it is.
TBR and Enjoy. (P.S. Molly, as a teacher I wholeheartedly agree with and support everything that you talk about in this book and as a sister who watched her younger brother suffer through school with dyslexia I thank you for sharing your personal experience with all of us).

This has to be one of the best reads of 2020, it brought me so much joy and happiness and it was a breath of fresh air to read a book that’s an advocate for all children with learning disabilities as well as a romance with all the feels. I was captivated from the first page to the last line, I laughed out loud, I smiled a lot and I felt every emotion this author managed to infuse into this great read.
Spencer a single dad is only interested in having his baby girl happy at school so when he moves her yet again because of bullying he needs to make sure her teacher understands his daughters needs what he didn’t expect was Ellie, the best special needs teacher in the area because she was once that student who struggled through school ......
Spencer and Ellie butt heads from the start but in a funny way and when they both realise they have the same goal, Belle to be happy in learning things turn around for them both and we see them start to have fun and enjoy being together. This is a heartfelt entertaining read that has you laughing not at the characters but with the characters as they go through everyday occurrences when you have a child with learning difficulties and in Ellie’s words you just need to understand we all learn in different ways. I highly recommend this gem of a read to every reader because it’s a fun read that will also touch you in so many levels. Top of my best reads of the year, great job Ms O’Hare from one of those students who was labeled as lacks concentration and could do better.

This story is a lesson in how negative comments can affect your life. The determination in the story was so refreshing and heartwarming to read about. I loved the comedy that comes from the situations and inner musings of these characters. The plot was pleasant and moved me at times. I did enjoy reading this book.

Ellie is a teacher for children with additional needs. She knows how to do the very best for the children in her care and goes above and beyond in her efforts to protect them. She is endearingly clumsy and her threats to kill her best friend and family members are hilarious. Even her dog is funny and don’t get me started on her parents and best friend, Sally! They are too much. Ellie’s mother is a sex therapist and doesn’t hold back! Very funny. Ellie is very lovable.

Spencer is the father of Belle; a nine year old ball of sass and energy. This girl is adorable and her Dad is sexy and very protective. It’s so lovely how far Spencer will go to protect his little girl. The first impressions between Spencer and Ellie, as Belle’s new teacher, are not exactly friendly. Both get the wrong idea of the other but neither can stop the attraction. Their journey is very funny and full of feelings.

I have to say that Ellie’s parents and her boss and headteacher, Bob, who is Ellie’s Dad’s BFF, is just comical. The way they confer over Ellie’s behaviour is sweet and funny. Her best friend, one of the children in Ellie’s class and her dog, Roxy just pull the story together and add even more laughs.

I really did enjoy this book.

What a perfectly sassy and quirky read. I am going to gush over some of the best characters in recent memory. I loved every inner thought, every reaction, all the dialogue, and interaction in this story. There was not one character that didn’t live up to the spirit of this story. This was my first venture into reading Molly O’Hare and I am so glad I did. I need all the laugh out loud snarky moments.
Spencer Hurley is sex on a stick. Not just because he has “yum yum lines” but because he is fiercely in love with his daughter. He is so loving and kind to her and that just ticks up his score. Ellie Ryan is the teacher we all wish we had. Her unconditional acceptance of her students and their difficulties makes her golden, plus her funny whit and snarky nature just keep you loving her. Her love of baked goods and willingness to kill over an empty pot of coffee makes her my hero! Spencer’s daughter Belle, as just the right amount of little kid spunk to keep you giggling. Best friend Sally, Ellie’s school principal, Elle’s parents and Spencer’s dad Randal, just add to the hilarity of this story. I would be remiss if I didn’t give the star of the story, Roxy the dog her own mention.
While this story is sweet in funny there is just enough sexy to add to the hot factor. Spencer is all about building Elle up and helping her realize what an amazing sexy woman she is. I love them together. You just feel the love and connection seeping from the pages. It all makes for the perfect fun flirty summer read.
This was a 5/5 read for me. I really hope Sally gets her own story because there is some spunkiness that I need to read!

OMG this story brings on the funny. Most importantly at its foundation it has a message that makes my heart melt.

In this story you get a curvy special education teacher who falls for her student’s dad. Plan for a somewhat klutzy, filterless dog owner who says and does the wackiest things. She has an extra helping of feisty, keeping things interesting. OMG holy hotness, dad not only is an amazing parent but he get SOOO SPICY with our heroine. Yum! Can you say STEEEAAMMY?!

Sweet funny daughter, an over eating quirky dog, blunt hilarious parents, and a look into the world of someone with a learning difference take this story to the next level.

I am a huge believer in defending the underdog and this story does that in a beautiful way. Eek. I am not saying anymore. Get to reading and you will understand.

Love this story. Happy Reading Everyone! XOXO

Molly O'Hare is the queen of romcom as far as I am concerned! She can take the most wacky scenarios and make them utterly believable. Her animal characters are just as fully fleshed out as their human counterparts. She pulls you into her characters lives from the first page and you are fully invested by the second one. Spencer and Ellie don't get off to the best start. He kinda makes the worst possible impression and then doubles down on it. Luckily he redeems himself and fortunately, his daughter is Ellie's favorite person. Otherwise, I'm not completely sure he would have had a chance with her. Ellie can't help but drool over Spencer looks but his jerkish behavior smothers most of her attraction to him. Ellie's parents and Spencer's dad, along with Ellie's bestie Sally round out this motley bunch. Ellie's parents especially are a total scream. I didn't put this book down for a moment, complete and total entertainment from start to finish. 10 stars for Learning Curves!

Let me start by saying this, every one of Molly O’Hare’s books has brought me endless amounts of joy. But none of them, not even Ben and Holly, have hit me with so much love, happiness, laughter and emotion the way Learning Curves did. This book is like a double whammy for me. First of all it’s everything about Molly’s writing that I adore. Hilarity and sarcasm that results is great bouts of belly laughter, romance so sweet it will make your teeth hurt, the perfect amount of steam to have you fanning yourself, and love...tons and tons of love.
Then there’s Spencer’s daughter and touching on learning disabilities. Molly perfectly captures the emotion of both a child going through this and a parent raising a child with a learning disability. Having a child with very similar disabilities this book hit home in so many ways for me. I cried not only from feeling the pain they’d experienced from others but also because it was so wonderful to see all those thoughts and feelings I’ve experienced first hand so beautiful shown and feel the genuine love that Molly put into this book in that regard. I wish there was an Ellie out there for every child.

Another fun romance hit from Molly O’Hare!
Meet Ellie, a special ed teacher with a heart of gold, a potty mouth, and a love of life that sparkles from her.
Meet Spencer, the father of a girl who has dyslexia. He’s protective of his daughter, and fascinated with her unexpectedly sexy and volatile teacher.
Add in a dog called Roxy who loves her food (I can relate), meddling parents, and witty, loveable friends, and you have the perfect combo for a funny, sexy, and warm-hearted romance! (not to mention we meet Lord Waffles again!)

I really wasn't sure how I felt about Spencer at first I loved that his daughter was number one and he protected her but he still came across kinda ugh! Ellie is awesome she is kinda spastic and all over the place but she is all about the kids and making sure they are okay and safe. She has some major word vomit issues and is really blunt also. These two are like oil and water at first I was surprised they ever figured out they actually liked each other lol. I loved how awesome Ellie was with Belle and how fiercely even early on she wanted to protect her. These two were hilariously fun to read about and I really enjoyed it.

This would be one of the awkwardest books I've ever read

Immature main protagonists both male and female, towards the end I had a feeling the brightest ones are the kids. She is supposed to be a role model - a teacher, but is completely incapable of being anywhere on time.

Hand in hand with situations when I was blushing for the MCs, I only didn't DNF because of the length (it's pretty short) and curiosity.

2 stars for the plot only.

Everytime I pick up a Molly O'Hare book I just know I am going to absolutely love it!! In Learning Curves we meet Ellie Ryan she is as sassy witty teacher who may or may not have an issue with spewing just about everything that runs through her mind. I absolutely love her and her quick wit. She is sweet, caring, and yes as the blurb states the kind of teacher everyone wishes they had while in school. She stands up for students, and refuses to let anyone bully those who are different than others. Spencer is a single dad to the adorable Annabelle. They have had a few struggles with they way Belle has been treated by teachers and her peers. Making the only decision he could to provide a better life for his daughter he moves them to a place where she can get the education and help she needs.
Belle is an absolute joy. Yes she may have issues with those who have treated her differently, but she has not let it cloud her. Her disposition is sweet and innocent, and her quick comebacks had me giggling. For a 9 year old she definitely knows how to keep her dad on his toes. I loved following these characters as they find each other.
As in any other Molly O'Hare book I have read you get those laugh out loud moments. There are a few different parts in this book that I had to re-read just because they made me laugh. I love her sweet and sassy heroines along with the uber sweet alpha males. The secondary characters help this story flow so well. I will say you will fall in love with Ellie's students, and lets not forget her BFF Sally!

Learning Curves is a single dad, enemies to lovers, curvy girl rom-com that had a lot of heart.  Before I even started Chapter 1, both the Dedication and Preface had me tearing up because I knew this book was coming from a place of strength & passion. ⁣ ⁣⁣

Ellie is a best special education in the state because she was once the student who struggled with dyslexia. She was made to feel stupid & worthless.  Now she is an outspoken advocate for her students.  Spencer is a single father who moved so his daughter could escape the bullying from both students & teacher at her last school. She is now Ellie’s student but Spencer isn’t sure of Ellie’s ability, despite her great reputation.  They butt heads from the 1st moment but quickly realize that they have the same singular goal…to help Belle get all the assistance, guidance and love she needs. And just maybe, there is something special between them too once they start to get to know each other. ⁣ ⁣⁣

I think this is a book that will both open a lot of eyes to those children with learning disabilities and what they face every day.  But it does it with a lot of laughter and a few tears.  The romance story between Ellie & Spencer was just hysterical, steamy & swoon worthy too.  Definitely don’t think you aren’t getting a romance despite the serious underlying theme of this book because you are. It’s a romance with a lot of heart, strength, fight & laughter.  Between both Ellie & Spencer’s crazy & hilarious parents,  her BFF Sally, the kids in Ellie’s class and Ellie’s dog Roxy I was literally laughing out loud.  Overall, I couldn’t put this book down for both is heart-wrenchingly uplifting message and the love story between Ellie & Spencer.  I was either laughing, swooning or tearing up the entire time I was reading & this is definitely a book I would recommend.⁣⁣

Single daddy Spencer has a daughter and he will do anything for her. He’s moved to a new town because the school is known for their fantastic methods of teaching kids with learning disabilities. Ellie Ryan is that special teacher. While aloof, unorganized, marches to her own beat, she is amazing at her job.

Molly’s writing always gives me the giggles. It goes from ridiculous scenes, giggles giggles giggles to serious heartwarming smiles to your face because the book just makes you happy. I enjoyed the supporting characters, Spencer’s dad was a hoot, Roxy the dog, Ellie’s parents, her best friend, his daughter and her students played fantastic roles in this book. We even got to see a little bit of past characters, which I loved seeing.

Parent/teacher forbidden romance with a flair. I loved seeing Molly put some of her experiences in this book. It shows how much she’s overcome and she should be so proud of herself! I really enjoyed their story. They had so so much chemistry. So so many encouraging sweet moments with Belle. It will just put a big smile on your face.

Talk about side splitting laugh out loud comedy! Molly O'Hare delivers perfectly timed comedic gold! I can't get enough of Learning Curves! I need more already and I just finished. Not only do we get to meet Ellie, Spencer, and Belle, we also get to see some old faces that we adore.

Ellie had me rolling in laughter. Her word vomit and witty comebacks were timed perfectly. One thing I absolutely loved about her was her ability to work through the hate she had spouted at her all her life. She's strong and determined and refuses to let anyone keep her down. Spencer is such a devoted dad. I loved seeing his relationship with his daughter Belle, as well as his budding relationship with Ellie. After fighting with himself for like a minute he refuses to back down from what he wants, Ellie. Now for the star of the book, Belle. This little girl has a heart bigger than Texas and a mouth on her that would make an sarcastic parent proud. Belle's drive and push to learn even with her learning disabilities was beautiful to see. She really was the star of Learning Curves.

Learning Curves has it all! Romance, witty banter, hilarious characters, and one little girl who shines off the pages. I think this is Molly O'Hare's best book yet!

I was one of the lucky few able to read concept chapters of Learning Curves. Even so, it wasn’t until I had the final version on my tablet that the heart, soul, humility, and motivation behind this book truly shined through. If you read the preface, you’ll understand Leaning Curves is the culmination not only of Molly’s personal experience, but also of why her no-holds-barred style for internal monologue makes her a phenomenal romantic comedy writer. She was able to draw in characters from her other books seamlessly as if every person was a key element to the story and create a situation that not only makes this read laugh out loud funny, but also tugs at your heartstrings.

Talk about a laugh out loud funny story that had me dying laughing throughout the whole book. Molly O'Hare brings you a story that brought a smile to my face and tears to my eyes and I am so glad I was able to read this book. Ellie is a spitfire who is good at being a teacher. She is strong willed and cares so much about her students and when new student Belle joins her class she is left tongue tied by her dad Spencer. It's just Spencer and his daughter Belle and will stop at nothing to give her the best education and when he uprooted them and moved because he found a teacher that would help with Belle's learning disabilities he didn't think twice about it. These two were so fun to read and the banter between the two had me devouring this book. Throw in a witty BFF and hilarious parents and you have yourself a wonderful rom-com story that I couldn't put down. I can't wait for my next Molly O'Hare read.

This book was an absolute blast to read. It had so many hilarious moments in it. I absolutely live for Ellie in all her messy glory add in the sexy alphalicious, single dad Spencer and his yum yum lines (absolute genius I’m calling them this now) and their insta love connection and you have all you need for an awesome book, but add in some awesome supporting characters like the brilliant 9 year old Annabelle, the crazy best friend, dads best friend/boss and three over the top, but incredible parents and we absolutely cannot forget the food obsessed Roxy and this book becomes even that much more. To top off all this wonderfullness, and underneath all the fun laughs this book also has a great message about people who learn differently than others due to learning disabilities and how sometimes they are let down by people who are supposed to advocate for them as a mama of a little girl who is autistic I could completely relate to this story line. My kid is so lucky to have a teacher and a school that supports her learning and is giving her the best opportunity to be all that she can be and I don’t know what we would do without them.

If your looking for a feel good low angst read Learning Curves by Molly O’Hare is it.
Spencer has moved to a new city with his daughter who has a learning disability. After being bullied at her old school he’s hoping a new school and new teacher will benefit her.
Ellie grew up with a learning disability and now teaches kids with those same disabilities. She is also a lover of hot fresh croissants, coffee, cupcakes, and wine. Her dog whips food dishes at her and thinks Ellie is her slave. She is also not a morning person and often late for work, good thing her students have home room first. Did I mention her mom is a sex therapist? 🤣 Yeah, that’s a hoot! And her boss is also her dads best friend and is basically her second father? Yeah that’s gonna go great. She is also completely 100% devoted to helping her students realize that are smart and unique.
Seriously this is a slow burn, low angst feel good book. The kid and the dog are adorable, Spencer’s dad is a hoot and Elli’s parents, well just read the book 😉😂

Molly O’Hare has done it again! Learning Curves brings to life the most endearing, funny, identifiable characters and gave us a fun, entertaining story. These are characters you’ll want to root for, smack upside the head and hug as you journey through this glimpse of their world. They could be your neighbors, your friends, your own kids’ teachers. And did I mention the sexy hottie we all want a piece of? The one whose brain disappears below the belt every time he inserts his foot into his mouth? Oh, yes, there’s him. Wait, and my personal favorite... the four legged comedian. Roll everyone up and throw in a splash of coffee and you’ve got one helluva story!

This is one of the best and one of the most relatable books I have read in 2020. I have read Molly's books previously and have enjoyed her books but hands down this is one of her finest work to date. I went in blindly in this book and was just taken by surprise how well written this book is . This book was a breath of fresh air , It was heartwarming & so eloquently written. I devoured and enjoyed every word of this book .

Though Its a romantic comedy which had me laughing out loud but it sheds lights on a very serious topic of learning disability & what people with learning disability go through . It's definately not a smooth ride.

I was invested in the story from the the first page. The plot was captivating , the characters were relatable and the banter and comic timing had me constantly laughing . I loved Spencer, Ellie & Belle . There are some stories that you read and once you finish them you forget about them after a while and then there are some stories that remain with you even after you finish them and make you take a step back and ponder & they leave a lasting impression on your mind . This book surely falls in the second category . I wish all the kids would have at least one teacher like Ellie in their lives . A must read !!

I absolutely loved this sweet, funny and sexy read! Ellie is the perfect heroine for a great Romantic Comedy! Spencer is also the perfect sexy leading man, and single Dad. Add in an adorable little girl and a hilarious dog...this book as everything you want and need for an enjoyable book they will keep you laughing and make your heart expand with love! I also have to comment, the incorporation of learning disabilities, the approach taken with them, was not only realistic, it was refreshing! I myself have a daughter with disabilities similar to those in this story, and I adored reading a book that made me see such happiness and love and in a real life environment, with everyday issues! I look forward to more from Molly O’Hare now that I have discovered her books!

I have read every single one of Molly's books. Every single one has had me rolling with laughter at page one, and had me smiling throughout.
Something was different with this one, and it was obvious just in the first chapter. There was SO MUCH HEART. This story was deeper, sweeter and so well developed. Toss in Molly's gift for humor and romance, this is my favorite book of hers yet.

Spencer is a single dad to a little girl, and when he finds out how she is being treated at school, he does his research and moves them to a new town where there is a top special educator teacher. Ellie was bullied throughout her schooling and now she can show the finger to those that treated her so badly, as she is the top educator teacher. This is a fantastic story which has engaging and relatable characters. This is a beautifully written story which is a humorous and entertaining romance comedy, which pulls at the heartstrings. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner. Hat’s off to this awesome author as she never disappoints her readers!
