Grace stayed over held my safest stuffed animal we made a fort to sleep in for the night Whisper scary stories not to loud to wake my parents shes articulate with every word she spoke Eight the next morning i'm finding dirty coins to put into my grey lunchbox Shes penciled in her drawings pure beauty on white paper i have my parents hang it on the fridge Stick figures smiling sky was blue, red , and green i'll miss her imagination and our friendship when i am grown Sad realization to cope moment slips before you know like a raindrop falls to cement

Blinking red that you peek from the highway i'm cramped inside it, double-panned window and some toys too keep me occupied I think I'm ready. Stopping down the split-end doors to exit the tree house I breathe in fresh air. Snowflakes taste like freedom when they touch the tip of my tongue I jump from the balcony and airplane with no destination keep soaring faster high above peaks of catholic churches a lack of stimulation that my room is always missing. Floating in the sky under light of the beauty I feel the blood moon push and pull the tides my heart mimics the motion. The way it should be One in a million chance the Earth loses its shadow What do you reference? When everything Breaks who I am now I've boiled down a conclusion: I'm nothing more than a speck of dust that appears floating in your living room when the light hits me at the right angle. keep letting your box fan push and pull me around I'm feeling less than insignificant than I did before this started.
6.
Gather 'round, gather 'round never heard it here first Humanity's strive for love was dead by the sound of a click. No you don't, no you don't, no you don't like to burn but you love to play with fire and dance around in the smoke. Little screens shiny screens blindside me everywhere they replaced the newspaper and I'm getting high off of it. It's a weapon, laser gun a red dot they point at me Those kids in those articles wish they'd finally take their shot A time traveler meets present day Devastated, and in woe, we are just walking machines. Got me tangled like a bed sheet in branches Never wanted to be a part of it I just want you to love me like you used to Hold me, before we're deleted again
7.
You are the artist I will always to seem love but you are painting a girl crying into a pillow fear that distance constantly pushes me away But Darling, I'm a pendulum swinging back when you're ready Infatuation lingered in your eyes for that lifestyle you are living is a lit candle wax it's running low it's my fear the second you walk through the door your hands are shaking they sway mountaintops back and forth the sunlight peaks through your beach of a room gust of wind hits the curtains the ceiling's your blue white clouded moon you just keep laying there as if your life has no worth because lately you feel like a seashell lately you feel like a seashell
8.
What is the warmth in here? You influence is unsettling, sorry dear I want to impress but I end up depressing the mood Conditioned to different rooms, yours is the warmest fireplace with the books you read, on the shelves they lay in the corner they sit "Brave New World" open at the end of your couch I don't keep my coat on anymore I leave it at the hanger at your door and sit outside on that dark fire escape You open the window and hand me a scarf to cover my ego I so deeply obsess Yet, I still clench the cold metal in little knots 'cause to me it's safety in my fingertips.

about

Another Bulb Burned Out is the sophomore release from Bedroom Ceilings, a Michigan-based indie rock duo. Dean Chittenden (songwriter, lead vocals, piano) and Ben Steer (acoustic guitar, bass) have been working together primarily on studio recordings since early 2016. It’s a new direction for the band, but Bedroom Ceilings chooses to be genre-fluid. Strong influences from artists such as Bright Eyes, Margot & The Nuclear So And So’s and King Krule help to form the new soundscape and concept for the album, which incorporates grand piano, upright bass, trumpet, flugelhorn, and lap steel.
Adhering to several concepts throughout the album, Another Bulb Burned Out is intended to be absorbed as a listener twiddling with their radio dial, flipping through channels, wondering why experiences pass by so quickly. Our main character or protagonist of this story is stuck in a difficult mental state, and feels undeserving of success. Life has deceived him by making him believe that happiness is a deus ex machina. “Well-Designed Robot” introduces the idea of failure and frustration in the lyrics “another bulb burned out, the light escaped as quick as that second.” This indie rock introduction provides a narrative within itself, and sets the pace for our hero who is struggling with loss and confusion.
“Grace is Articulate” introduces the contemporary folk aspects, and features multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Jake Kalmink of Further Closer on lap steel. Dean’s voice quakes with uncertainty in this wistful song, representing a nostalgic protagonist wishing to return to a simpler time. This ties into “Spring Grass”, and our character begins to make positive changes and break the cycle, no matter how dejected and depressed he might feel.
In the beachy and concise “Time Traveller”, he is bitter about the mold that society imposes, but has finally achieved control of his life - and now wishes to share it with others. Freedom, after all, is a state of mind, and the only way to reach happiness is to take a step every day. He now shifts his attention to a loved one who, like himself, feels undeserving and stuck - she is not yet free to reach her full potential. By the time the album reaches its climax in the second act of “Clairvoyance”, there is triumph within, and the music explodes with soaring electric guitar while the sky is crashing down. The album closes with acceptance, and although the main character is now more at peace, he concedes that the struggle for balance and intimacy will last a lifetime.

Another Bulb Burned Out, the band's sophomore album is much more directly influenced by folk rock. As chief lyricist and songwriter, Dean visualizes a thematic listening experience, and Ben translates these ideas into working songs, resulting in harmony between mind and matter. ... more
