Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, March 11th, 2024

The University of Georgia is succeeding in its efforts to ensure students’ success beyond graduation. According to career outcomes data released by the UGA Career Center, 96% of UGA’s Class of 2023 graduates were employed or continuing their education within six months of graduation.

“This impressive career outcomes rate reflects the University of Georgia’s campus-wide commitment to student success and the tireless efforts of countless individuals here,” said President Jere W. Morehead. “Students and their families can be sure that a UGA education provides an extraordinary return on their investment.”

Among the Class of 2023 graduates, 64% were employed full-time; 23% were continuing their education; and 9% were engaged in post-graduate internships, fellowships, residencies, postdoctoral research, part-time jobs or said they were not currently seeking employment.

They also found their jobs quickly: among all full-time employed 2023 graduates, 70% obtained employment before graduation, 93% within 3 months of graduation and 98% within 6 months of graduation. Two-thirds of the full-time employed graduates remained in Georgia to start their careers.

The Class of 2023 graduates were hired by 3,130 unique employers across a variety of sectors, including business (70%), education (21%), government (5%) and nonprofit (4%). Some of the top employers of the class were AT&T, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Delta Air Lines, Piedmont Healthcare, The Home Depot and Truist Bank. A full list of the top 25 employers of the Class of 2023 can be found online.

The UGA Career Center was a significant factor in students’ success. The Career Center annually holds thousands of career counseling appointments and delivers hundreds of classroom presentations all over campus. Those — along with the UGA Mentor Program, career fairs, industry insider panels and more — create countless opportunities for students to find their futures.

These efforts are bolstered by the work of career-focused offices and programming across campus as well as individual faculty and staff. UGA’s schools and colleges regularly engage with their alumni and corporate partners to provide students with advice and make connections unique to students’ fields of study.

This is the 12th consecutive year a UGA class has posted a career outcomes rate of 90% or higher.

Seven of the past nine graduating classes have achieved a career outcomes rate of 95% or higher. The only exceptions were the two classes that graduated at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, and even those classes achieved a 91% and 92% career outcomes rate, respectively.

The UGA Career Center calculates the career outcomes rate each January by collecting information from surveys, phone calls, employer reporting, UGA departments, the National Student Clearinghouse and social media websites such as LinkedIn. The current data is based on the known career outcomes of 8,616 graduates from the Class of 2023.
