Energy Education Contractor

Renewable Energy Alaska Project (REAP) is seeking an educator to join its clean energy education and training team as a Contractor on a part-time basis for the summer of 2023. The Energy Education (EE) Contractor will assist with REAP’s education and outreach efforts to K-12 educators and students through curriculum development and review, and support of REAP’s summer outreach activities.

Location: The EE Contractor will primarily be a virtual position. However, preference will be given to candidates who can also assist in person with student activities at one or more of the following summer camps: June 12-16 (Anchorage), June 26-30 (Fairbanks – highest need), and July 24-28 (Anchorage).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and update the AK EnergySmart curriculum with a focus on incorporating Indigenous Knowledge into the activities and lessons
  • Assist the Energy Education Director with reviewing program outreach materials
  • Help develop and implement appropriate educational assessment tools with respect to energy literacy
  • Design new online and print resources for educators to supplement existing curricula resources
  • Assist REAP staff with summer camp planning and delivery

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or five years of experience in a relevant field
  • Experience teaching in Alaska K-12 classrooms, and/or other relevant teaching, professional or educational background
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Well organized and able to meet multiple deadlines
  • Developing or editing K-12 curriculum, especially incorporating Indigenous Knowledge
  • Access to own computer and internet (licenses for specific computer programs not already on the computer may be available for the duration of the contract)

Additional Preferred Experience:

  • Holds or has held a state teaching license
  • Attended a REAP educator training or workshop
  • Traveling and/or doing outreach in rural Alaska, or other equivalent cross cultural experience
  • Knowledge of Alaskan institutions and energy infrastructure
  • Experience with multi-media technologies
  • Experience working with non-profits
  • Experience using Mac computing platforms
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign
  • Experience using online contact and communication database systems
  • Experience using meeting platforms such as Go To Webinar, Go To Meeting, Zoom, et cetera

Compensation: The EE Contractor will be paid $50/hour. The EE Contractor can work from 15 to 40 hours per week up to 400 total hours for the duration of the contract at the direction of the Energy Education Director. The EE Contractor will not be a REAP employee, and will not receive benefits.

Reports to: The EE Contractor reports to the Energy Education Director and works closely with other education and training staff according to program and project needs. All REAP staff and contractors are under the supervision of REAP’s Executive Director.
