The City of Springfield will be hiring an attorney to represent multiple departments and boards for the City.  This is a challenging and fulfilling opportunity for an attorney who embraces opportunities to learn new areas of the law and develop honest, productive relationships.  This attorney will be an integral member of the City's Law Department and will work closely with the City Attorney to investigate and prepare legislation for consideration by Council.

This Assistant City Attorney position may be filled as an Assistant City Attorney I or an Assistant City Attorney II (Please see "Functions" below for additional information) dependent on the candidate's qualifications and experience. 

Attorneys with Planning and Development experience preferred.

About the Law Department
The Law Department is a full service, in-house legal office, consisting of 14 attorneys (including three full-time prosecutors) and eight support staff.  The department is available as a resource to various City boards and commissions and to City Council. The department represents the City in all legal matters, including civil actions brought by or against the City.  For more information about the Law Department, click here.

Qualifications and Requirements

The minimum requirements for an Assistant City Attorney I are provided below.  
 

  • Graduation from an accredited law school;
AND
  • Licensure by the State of Missouri is required
PREFERRED
  • One year of law experience.  
 
Licensing/Certification
  • Must be licensed to practice law by the State of Missouri.
