Dear Barnard Families,
Today is Friday, May 14, 2021 and this past week we had the opportunity to celebrate School Nurse's Day. Mrs. Alaimo and Mrs. Maurice take care of our students each and every school day; bumps, bruises, scrapes, scratches, runny noses, chapped lips, wardrobe changes, and everything in between. We couldn't keep the building up and running without them. We are very lucky to have them as part of the Barnard team!
Dress for Success
At the turn of each season, I always like to include a reminder about shifting temperatures and the need to adjust clothing to match. A student who dresses appropriately for the weather is going to be more comfortable and ready to learn. With the forecast calling for temps to start rising into the 80's next week, helping your children dress in layers to address the cool morning temperatures as well as hot sunny afternoons, would be very helpful. It may also be a good idea to send your child in with a hat to keep the sun off their skin during recess and mask breaks.
Summer Learning Program
The Summer Learning Program is still in development but details are expected to come out soon. With that in mind, the program is highly recommended for students whose families feel that they have ground to make up because of the impact the pandemic has had on learning. Retention has many drawbacks that can impact student outcomes later in their school careers. The Summer Learning Program is the answer to pandemic learning loss. If you are concerned about your child's progress, this is the program for you!
iPads and the Summer Months
iPads will be collected from all students in grades K-2 before the end of the school year. This will allow for cleaning, maintenance, and reimaging before being deployed again at the start of the next school year. iPads must be returned with their original charging block, case/keyboard, and charging cable. Students enrolled in the Summer Learning Program will be issued an iPad to use for the duration of the program.
Dive Into Diversity with Our Partners at KITE
This week is the second part of Ms. Bedoya’s sharing. Take a step into her classroom where she shares the book, “ Ser Honesto” (Being Honest) by Cassie Mayer in both Spanish and English!
