Kleb Intermediate
Edition 20: February 8, 2021
Hello Bearcub families,
Good Sunday afternoon everyone!
We hope that everyone enjoyed their weekend and our Bearcubs are ready to tackle this short but busy week.
This Wednesday our campus will have our first STAAR simulation on campus. The simulation will be for our 7th grade students, who will be simulating their 7th Grade Writing exam. More detailed information can be found below including a important dismissal form for our KOL students that we are asking parents to complete before our KOL students come to campus so we can facilitate their day on Wednesday. We look forward to seeing all of our Bearcubs on campus that day. The next round of simulations will occur in March when all grade levels and tested subject areas will be simulated. We will continue to send out information for those days as they get closer.
The other different looking day on campus this week is our remote learning day on Thursday. All Bearcubs will be working asynchronously that day with an opportunity to zoom in during our teacher's office hours if they have questions or need support. A copy of our campus office hours can be found below and it will also be posted in our student's Schoology courses.
Finally, this week will be the last Basketball games for this season. We are so proud of our athletes and a big shout out to our coaches for all of their support. Please check out the kudos section below to see what else our other Bearcubs have been up to this week as we celebrate both their achievements and some awesome staff members we have on campus.
We are looking forward to another fabulous week and as always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to our staff.

BEARCUBS OF THE WEEK
6th Grade: Zoee Martin
Zoee exhibits our CUB core value (Continuous Learner) in class. She is innovative, creative, and always willing to share her artsy creations! She volunteered to design a cool prop to help make our argumentative text unit fun for everyone!
7th Grade: Adrian Baldovinos
Adrian demonstrates a positive attitude, strong work ethic, active participation, and leadership every day in class. He actively participates in class discussions following class procedures. He is diligent in his work and asks for help. He is thoughtful in his responses and responsive to teacher feedback.
8th Grade: Sydni Glenn
Being grateful, kind, joyful, honest, and selfless is something that Sydni does unconsciously. When a student was being made fun of, instead of going along with her classmates and laughing, Sydni came to the teacher and let us know that someone was being made fun of. Caring about your peers is a trait that every Bearcub should have.

Attention all 8th Grade Students & Parents!
All of Klein ISD campuses have been working the past couple of weeks to put together a website that will house videos for all of our students that will be transitioning to a new campus next year. This website will take the place of the high school campus visits our 8th graders typically attend. 8th grade students and families can view the videos by accessing the site below:
https://sites.google.com/kleinisd.net/klein-orientation-visits/home
The site has one video for the students and another video for the parents. Simply click on the high school your student will be attending next year to get started.
Thank you to the Klein High and Klein Cain staff for putting together the information and videos!
Campus Sporting Events
This includes: With limited capacity rules and following Klein's guidelines for all Intermediate campuses, we will be restricting our spectators to our participants/athletes, the parents, grandparents, & siblings of the athletes, and the season pass holders. We are limiting our spectators in an effort to ensure that family members have an opportunity to watch their student's play. Spectators must present their pre-paid tickets at the entry gate for each game to order to enter. A limited number of tickets will also be available for family members to purchase at the game but on a first come, first serve basis. Families will be required to sit together and socially distance themselves from other families. There will also be some special procedures for spectators at the on campus facilitates.
Please note, all spectators must wear a mask for the entirety of time while on campus. We appreciate everyone following this rule so we can continue to hold games!
We are continuing to look for opportunities to be able to invite students and other community members to the games once we are able to accommodate everyone safely or there is an adjustment to the Intermediate campus guidelines.
KOC Reminder
Beginning Monday, November 9th, if your student is coded as a KOC (Klein On-Campus) student the expectation is that the student attends campus daily for instruction. If a student is unable to attend campus, then they will be counted absent for the day. The student will be allowed to work asynchronously through Schoology, but will not be allowed to attend Zoom. If a KOC student needs to access instruction synchronously for absences that extend beyond one day, then the parent will need to contact the attendance office by 3pm by email (dbanks1@kleinisd.net) or through Skyward messaging for administration to approve for the following day. The change comes in an effort to reduce the daily back and forth transitions that are occurring on campus, which the data and feedback shows is reducing learning outcomes and is burning the teachers out with the inconsistencies. Our hope is to get closer to a sense of normalcy, as best as possible, in our current conditions.

Online Testing Guidelines
- Be present on Zoom at the time of the class to take the test and remain in class the entire period. If a student is not present online during the class on test day, they will have to arrange a time with the teacher to take a make-up test. If all testing opportunities are missed, then a zero would be recorded in the grade book for that test.
- Have their cameras on with the student's face in view. Students must have their cameras on the entire time they are testing. If not, teachers will give the students reminders to turn it on before exiting them from the Zoom. Students that begin the test and then turn off their cameras or leave may cause their test to become invalidated.
- Ensure their testing environment is free from distractions and communicate with their teacher if they are having any issues.
Zoom Participation Guidelines:
In order to help support our students more effectively and manage our Zoom/Online classrooms, we have implemented the following guidelines that will be required in order to participate in Zoom.
- Students need to follow the dress code when online with their teacher and/or classmates
- Students will need to make sure to use their first and last name as their screen name in order to be let in from the waiting room
- Students will need to leave their cameras on for the entire time while in the Zoom session unless there are extenuating circumstances that does not allow them to do so. If those circumstances exist, then the student or parent needs to contact their teacher to let them know.
Students may use the Chat feature for topics related to the lesson or to communicate with the teacher.
Students need to be participating in a conducive work environment, for example, students should not be Zooming in from a vehicle.
Parents, please note, that our Zooms are considered part of our classrooms. Our campus is diligently working to create a cohesive classroom environment and provide our online students an opportunity to engage with both the teacher and other students. If you need to contact one of our staff members for questions or support, we ask that you email or call them so that they can reach out and address any issues.

Once checked in, visitors should remain in the front office until staff has confirmed that the visitors destination has safety measures in place.
At this time, parents/guardians will not be allowed to visit students in the cafeteria nor bring lunch deliveries, until further notice.

How can parents help?
Each week we rely on donations to help fund our gift card rewards. If you would like to donate a $10-$50 gift card to a local store or restaurant you can drop off your donation in the front office, have your student drop it by the 8th grade office, or hand it to Mrs. Lammers in the car rider pickup line. Cell Phone Policy: Pulled from the 2020-2021 Klein ISD Student Handbook
Electronic Devices and Technology Resources (All Grade Levels) Possession and Use of Personal Telecommunications Devices, Including Mobile Telephones: The district permits students to possess personal cell phones for safety purposes; however, these devices must remain turned off during the instructional day, including during all testing, unless they are being used for approved instructional purposes.
A student must have approval to possess other personal telecommunications devices such as laptops, tablets, or other portable computers. Students are not permitted to possess or use personal electronic devices at school unless prior permission has been obtained. Without such permission, teachers will collect the items and turn them in to the principal’s office. The principal will determine whether to return items to students at the end of the day or to contact parents to pick up the items. The use of mobile telephones or any device capable of capturing images is strictly prohibited in locker rooms or restroom areas while at school or at a school-related or school-sponsored event. If a student uses a telecommunications device without authorization during the school day, the device will be confiscated. The parent may pick up the confiscated telecommunications device from the principal’s office.
Please reference the Student Handbook for more information about cell phones and acceptable technology use.
Attendance Procedures
Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education—to benefit from teacher-led and school activities, to build each day’s learning on the previous day’s, and to grow as an individual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of the instructional materials; therefore, the student and parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences.
Did you know you can now report an absence in Skyward? Click HERE for more information.
Any student who is absent for the whole day is required to produce one of the following within 5 days of their absence(s):
· Parent Note
· Parent email (within 5 days of absence)
· Original medical note (copies or altered notes will not be accepted)
· Faxed notes must be sent from physician’s office
· Court note
· Official note for observance of approved religious holy days
***If a student is absent for part of the day for a doctor appointment, their absence will be coded as Section 25 (temporary absence) if the student follows the following procedure: The student must return the doctor excuse to the Attendance Office immediately upon returning to school to receive the Section 25 coding for their absence.
If a student does not produce one of the items listed above within the allotted timeframe, that absence will be considered unexcused and counted toward their total semester absences.
Klein ISD takes attendance very seriously, and we want to see your child succeed at Kleb. If you have any questions regarding attendance, please feel free to contact the attendance office at 832-249-5495 or reach out to your assistant principal.
Additional attendance information can be found starting on page 36 of the 20-21 Student Handbook.
