Hello Parkman Families!
We hope this newsletter finds you well! SBA testing for all grade levels is complete! Students and staff have also been hard at work completing end of year assessments. We are very proud of the progress our students are making. Even with all of the challenges this year, Parkman students are still growing!

Thank You!
A HUGE shoutout goes to the 5th grade committee! These parents have gone above and beyond to give our 5th grade students a memorable celebration.
We want to thank our PTO for all of the hard work they have put in to fundraising this year. Though our PTO group is small, they are mighty thoughtful and generous! Thank you for your time.
Staples has donated a bunch of boxes and hand sanitizer to our school. This will be much needed while some of our classrooms pack up and relocate. Thank you Staples!

- Return borrowed math manipulatives at this time.
- Return classroom/ library materials and books at this time.

Student iPad End of Year Collection
In order to perform yearly maintenance for the upcoming school year, we will
be collecting each student’s iPad so that it can be serviced over the summer.
Your child’s iPad will remain in school beginning June 10, 2021.
Families will be responsible for any damage to the iPad, consistent with the
District’s iPad Protection Plan and must return the iPad, charging cable and
block in satisfactory condition. Each device will be inspected upon its return.
If you’d like to help clean your child’s iPad, please review the general care
guidelines below:
• iPads and accessories must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers,
labels, paint, nail polish, etc. that are not the property of or applied by
Enfield Public Schools.
• Clean the iPad screen with a soft, dry, anti-static cloth
• If using a screen cleaner, ensure that it is designed for LCD-type screens. A
Clorox wipe may be used if it is not fully saturated.
• If you placed a pass lock on the device or enabled Parent Controls, please
remove it.
Families who waived the iPad Protection Plan option will be held responsible
for ALL damage to their child’s iPad including, but not limited to broken
screens, cracked or damaged casing or components, damaged ports or
buttons etc. Lost iPads and accessories (such as cases, cables and power
adapters) will be charged the actual replacement cost.
Devices must be turned in with the original case, charging cord, and big block charger. Devices should not have a lock code on them.
*** If your child's last day of school is before June 10th, the school iPad, case, charging cord, and big block charger will be collected before their last day. ***
A couple of important items to note: First, your child's device and associated equipment must be turned in or paid for in order to access students' end of year documents. Second, students participating in an Enfield Public Schools summer school program will be issued a device through the program for use during the length of the programs.

Curriculum & Instruction
STEAM Update
Grade 5 VEXcode VR
Our STEAM class is finishing up the coding unit using the VEXcode VR website. The students were able to code a virtual robot to complete various challenges like navigating a maze, using a magnet to retrieve and deliver objects, as well as solving a secret message. The students are working hard to use their problem solving skills and growth mindsets in order to fix coding errors. Throughout this module, we emphasized different real world applications in order to make computer science come to life. We hope they enjoyed this unit and developed an interest in future coding opportunities available in middle school.
Grade 4 Earth: Human Impact and Natural Disasters
Our STEAM class is completing the Project Lead the Way module, Earth: Human Impact and Natural Disasters. In this module, students learned about the relationship between humans and the environment. We reflected on all of the different natural resources we use every day. The students learned ways to reduce their human impact on the environment and used the design process to create an upcycled project. We just finished researching different natural disasters and will begin to design an emergency preparedness kit to demonstrate their understanding of the challenges that natural disasters pose. This unit has really helped students become more aware of ways they can make a positive impact on Earth as well as the importance of being prepared for a natural disaster in order to reduce the impact on our environment and communities.
Grade 3 Stability and Motion: Forces and Interactions
Our STEAM class is finishing the Project Lead the Way module, Stability and Motion: Forces and Interactions. In this module, students learned about simple machines such as wheel and axles, levers, inclined planes, pulleys, screws and wedges. We investigated the effect of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object. We are currently investigating magnetic interactions and how magnets can attract or repel. Throughout the unit, students were given opportunities to reflect on new knowledge and skills attained in order to improve their tiger rescue designs. The students will begin to design their final solution to rescue the tiger using the knowledge they acquired about simple machines, compound machines, and magnetic interactions. We are excited to hear and view the final designs they create!
