Good Evening Barnard Families,
This week's edition of The Big Cat Courier is a biggie with a lot of information. Thank you for taking the time to look over this week's big school news and for all of your support this year.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Three Schools, MANY BOOKS, One Community
Welcome to our “Three Schools, MANY BOOKS, One Community” project! The purpose of this activity is to encourage families to read together. Throughout the next few weeks, you will be given the opportunity to model and share in the love of reading with your child. This year we opted for a Covid-19-Friendly Reading Calendar with many options for each family. We hope that you will gather as a family and enjoy all of the excitement these genres/choices have to offer.
This year we selected the month of May because May 3rd-9th is National Children’s Book Week. The theme this year is “Reading is a Superpower!”
Your child will get a calendar to keep at home to track the days you read/types of books you choose. Although the calendar follows the month of May, your child can complete the daily activities in any order. This is meant to be a fun and exciting time of reading enjoyment for your family.
As a celebration of this project, on Friday, May 28th, we will be doing a school-wide Dress Up as Your Favorite Book Character Day! Your child can dress up as one of their favorite book characters.
We thank you for participating with us and bringing the joy of reading into your homes.
Sincerely,
Christine Turcotte-White, Heidi Borski, Melanie Evans -Henry Barnard School
Taryn Jennings, Linda Paradise-Enfield Street School
Danielle Klapproth, Donna Schroyer -Hazardville Memorial School
Adrienne Snow, K-12 Reading and Library Coordinator
Remote Students - Art Project Supply Bag Distribution
EPS Summer Learning Program - It's in the Works!
If you feel that your child's academic progress was adversely effected by the COVID-19 safety measures imposed on schools, you are not alone! This six week program is being designed to extend the formal learning year and help students make up lost ground. As a parent, I agree that children need a chance to play and just be kids, however, regaining academic ground is vital to our kids' long range outcomes. I ask that all families seriously consider the benefits of having their child/children attend. It's free and likely to be a once in a lifetime opportunity.
More information about the who, what, where, when, and how will be coming from the school district in the next couple of weeks.
