Validate Their Feelings
As a parent and caregiver, it can feel heart-wrenching when your child expresses feelings of fear, anxiety, or worry. But, it is important to remain calm and hold space for them to share how they’re feeling. When they share about feeling frustrated or upset, you can say, "Yeah, you're right. This is very frustrating." Allow them to feel their feelings and remind them that we are all affected by this change and are going to get through it together. Also, be mindful of toxic positivity, the belief that no matter how dire or difficult a situation is, people should maintain a positive mindset. You don’t have to tell them everything will be okay, but instead, focus on their resilience.
