Edgar H. Parkman Newsletter
March 12, 2021
Hello Parkman Families!
Just about a year ago, schools were distributing hundreds of packets and creating distribution and drop-off schedules. We learned how to use ZOOM, create masks from common household items and make homemade sanitizer. You knew someone was celebrating a special event if you saw a parade of cars go by and you were very lucky if you could find a roll of toilet paper. What an isolated and sad place to be... but the silver lining was that it brought more appreciation to the simple things in life; like our health, supporting one another, and spending quality time with those closest to us. We checked on each other, we played games, we listened, we understood. We kept moving forward. We've made it so far! Here we are, a year later, preparing for 4 day in person learning equipped with one to one devices and new innovative technology skills. We look forward to seeing our students in person and having some semblance of normalcy in our building. We're so proud of how our school community has pulled together.

This past week we have been experiencing some wonderful spring- like weather, but it’s still the month of March! Check the weather forecast each day and provide your child with the appropriate attire.
Travel Reminder
CT Travel Advisory: Beginning Friday, March 19, 2021, we will no longer require anyone who travels outside of CT to quarantine or test upon return (it is strongly recommended especially for those who are not fully vaccinated, but not mandated). With that said, per CDC guidelines, there is still a mandate for international travel, therefore we advise anyone traveling outside of the country to check with their airline carrier for specific testing/requirement.

School Procedures
Dismissal
- Students who are being picked up should be escorted by their parents to ensure safety through the parking lot.
- Dogs are not allowed on school grounds during dismissal.
- We are also asking that families who have children who attend JFK or EHS, to please talk to them about the safety hazards of riding bikes through school grounds during dismissal. Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students and families are walking around school grounds to get to buses, sidewalks, or cars. If older students need to pass through, they must walk their bikes through for safety. Parkman staff on duty have asked older students not to ride bikes through during dismissal. If these students continue to cause a safety risk during dismissal, JFK or EHS will be contacted to follow up.
Attendance
Remote learner attendance is important and will be recorded each day.
Remote students are expected to attend all live lessons and complete their assignments by the end of each day.
- The State holds us accountable for tracking attendance for both in school and at home learners.
- Parents should contact the office to let the school know if the child will not be attending in person or remote school for any reason. If your child is unable to attend classes (whether in-person or live streaming), please email Mrs. Waston in the main office at mwatson@enfieldschools.org and CC’ your child’s teacher as soon as possible. (This would be the equivalent to sending in a note if your child is going to be out for in person learning.)

Community Health Center (CHC)
CHC is accepting students in need of behavioral health services. CHC is working hard to connect with families, and look to their partners to help them meet the needs of students in this changing and unknown environment.
Click here for more information on CHC and how to connect through telehealth.
See you again...
