Some Tips For Your Child When Distance Learning
Parents & Caregivers: Our teachers are not only delivering instruction to the students in the classroom , but are also teaching students on-line at the same time. The lessons are designed for the students. We ask that your child is the only one on the screen, speaking with the teacher during the live lessons. If you have questions for the teacher, please send an email or set up a meeting during office hours.
Please help your child get ready for distance learning each day by doing the following:
- Get dressed
- Eat breakfast before the school day begins. Do not eat during live sessions.
- Set up a designated area for school work and virtual meetings. You should be sitting in a chair during live meetings.
- Turn the camera on and mute the microphone until it is your turn to talk.
- The only face that should be in front of the camera is you.
- Keep your toys, pets, brothers and sisters away from the screen.
If Your Child Is Sick
- Please keep your child home if he/she is not feeling well.
- Call the office to report your child's absence.
- Depending on the circumstances, your child may be able to attend meetings remotely.
Attendance
If your child should be in-person and instead logs in from home, they will be marked absent. This means if your child is in Cohort A, your child needs to attend school on Monday or Tuesday in person unless they are sick. If you are keeping your child home due to an exposure to covid-19 or an illness, then the nurse should be contacted to discuss school reentry. At that time, we will plan for your child to attend class remotely if they feel well enough to do so, and your child will then be marked remote present.
Breakfast & Lunch Information
To the families of Hazardville Memorial School,
This school year has certainly been unique and challenging for many reasons. Distance learning and hybrid learning can be extremely stressful, especially all while we are trying to navigate our new “normal”. Our children are resilient, however, learning to cope with all these changes can be challenging.
For those who don’t know me yet, my name is Monica Smith and I am a licensed professional counselor and work as the School Based Behavioral Health Clinician at Hazardville Memorial School. I specialize in working with children who experience symptoms such as anxiety, depression, irritability, defiance, trauma, low mood, inattention, and who have difficulty regulating emotions overall. I would love to be a support for you and your child through these difficult times and would encourage you to reach out to me if you think your child could benefit from these therapy services.
The easiest way to sign up is to fill out the online enrollment form which can be found in the link below. After the enrollment form is complete, we would then schedule a time to do an intake over Zoom or phone.
