Good Afternoon Barnard Families,
Have fun,
The HBS Staff
A Very Busy Prevacation Week at Barnard
-Monday kicked off the Buzz Robotics Food Drive for the Enfield Food Shelf. It will continue through Friday, April 23rd. Any donations of non-perishable food and high need non-food items can be sent in to school with your child. Donations will be collected in a special bin outside the front office. Drives of this sort are important in supporting our community, even during the best of times, unfortunately, this past year couldn't be described as anything farther away from the best of times. Your donations will remain here in Enfield to support Enfield families.
-Tuesday the Principals and Assistant Principals of our three primary buildings joined our partners from KITE for an incoming kindergarten family event. Kindergarten registration and "meet and greet" packets were handed out at Alcorn on Tuesday morning and evening. It was great to meet so many excited incoming families!
-Tuesday was also National Librarian Day. It is a day to honor the library workers that keep our libraries in order and contribute to the enrichment of our communities every day. Mrs. Fragomeni, our school librarian, has been an invaluable member of the HBS team during this very challenging year and we all thank her for her hard work.
-National Paraprofessional Appreciation Day fell on Wednesday. It is a day to recognize the people who commit to supporting students in one of the hardest jobs in education. We couldn't do it without these selfless superheroes.
-The April PTO meeting was held via Zoom on Thursday evening at 6:30. Next month's meeting is an important one with elections for next year's combined Barnard - Crandall PTO Board. If you know any families of incoming kindergarteners, please reach out to them and let them know that they are welcome to attend. The sooner you jump in to the Barnard community, the stronger our community becomes.
-April is also the Month of the Military Child. To show our support for the military families and children of military families here at HBS, staff and students participated in "Purple Up" by wearing something purple today. The official "Purple Up" date also falls on a day that school is not in session (April 15th) so like our "Light it up Blue" event, we decided to pick a day that we could all show our support together, as one community.
-If all of that wasn't enough, this week was also National Assistant Principal Week. I speak for the whole staff when I offer a sincere "thank you" to Mrs. Law. While she chose a wild year to come aboard, her addition to the staff has helped make HBS a richer school community!
Dive Into Diversity with KITE and EPS
April is Month of the Military Child! To celebrate military families, this week’s reading is, “Don’t Forget, God Bless our Troops, by Jill Biden. Our special reader this week is Mr. Beckstrand, a Marine Corps Officer and Hazardville Memorial/Eli Whitney dad!
See you back at HBS on Monday, April 19th!
