Reimagining Dementia: A Creative Coalition for Justice

Reimagining Dementia: A Creative Coalition for Justice is an international group of people living with dementia, carers/care partners, family and community members, dementia activists and allies, health professionals, advocates, artists, academics, policymakers, and others.

We share a vision of care and support that promotes inclusion, relationships, creativity, joy and the possibility of growth for everyone impacted by dementia.

“Spreading and creating more humanity around the world
and leading the end of stigma and the tragedy narrative”

The coalition is made up of people who use play, performance and improvisation in their programs and projects.

Together we creatively challenge the biomedical and institutional approaches to dementia policy and practice, and the fear, stigma and hopelessness they create.

We are mobilizing tens of thousands of people with dementia and their families - together with the communities and care settings in which they live - to support everyone to thrive and grow.

Recognizing the power of the arts for social change, Reimagining Dementia: A Creative Coalition for Justice teamed up with Simon Law to create an original song, “Let’s Reimagine” as part of a global campaign.

Taking It to the Streets

Around the world, millions of people are living with and impacted by dementia.

Yet dementia continues to be surrounded by a fear-, shame- and stigma-filled “cone of silence”
that impacts us all.

Together, we can, we must and we will shatter the silence about dementia.

How are you reimagining dementia?
Create a video to let us know!

The Coalition invites our members to create a short video (one minute or less) that we will post on social media and on our website and use in other ways. So if you'd like to be highlighted, please create a 45 second to 1 minute video in which you introduce yourself (and others if you want).

Tell us where you live, talk about your organization/company/work and let us know what reimagining dementia (the activity and the Coalition) means to you. Feel free to share in any way you'd like - you can sing, move/dance, create a poem, use sign language or your native language. If you already have a short video you want to use, that's also fine.

You can use your cell phone or Zoom to record the video. If you are using a phone, please record it in landscape mode/horizontal (turn the phone sideways). Make sure to have the volume on your device turned up, ensure good lighting (in front of you) and that you are not sitting with a window or other light source behind you. Once it’s completed, send the file (in mp4 format) - together with your name, title, organization, website and email to: reimaginingdementia@gmail.com. There is no deadline!
