Music Education Mission

The purpose of the Cheerful Heart Music Education Mission is to share the love of God through music; to nurture the musical talent and the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual growth of children in need; and to bring joy to the underserved people of the area.

In partnership with SOUND Affect International and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, the Cheerful Heart Music Education Mission conducts music schools in which children sing in a choir and are given instruction in guitar, violin, percussion, voice and dance. Local music teachers and worship leaders join our educators for master classes in instrumental techniques and teaching methods. Each school concludes with a concert for the community.

In May 2023, a team of music teachers and performers from the United States will lead La Escuela de Música in Loma de Cabrera, DR and Ekòl Mizik in Tilori, Haiti.

In an effort to create a sustainable program, the Cheerful Heart Mission has hired local music teachers to conduct an ongoing music school. The program is held at Iglesia Evangélica Metodista Libre, the church that partners with Cheerful Heart Mission in Loma de Cabrera, DR. Children receive instruction in music fundamentals, keyboard, percussion and guitar weekly, throughout the year. Children use instruments, donated by Cheerful Heart Mission, which are kept at the church. They have supervised access to these instruments during the week so that they can practice. There is no charge for those enrolled in Cheerful Heart Mission music education programs.

The music education of the children at La Escuela de Música in Loma de Cabrera is further enhanced by a partnership with the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Distance Teaching and Learning Lab. Instructors at the Jacobs School deliver online music lessons to students in Loma de Cabrera weekly.
