behind the mirror

An intimate series of concerts in Berkhamsted founded and curated by Clare O'Connell, presenting classical music in an imaginative, sometimes unexpected way.

An experimental seedbed for new music and new collaborations, each year sees the creation of at least eight unique programmes and two new commissions.

The series is supported and funded by a devoted and loyal following built up over the past 10 years.

Performer, arranger and curator, cellist Clare O'Connell plays as a soloist and chamber musician.

As Behind The Mirror she has given over 80 concerts in 10 years including 8 new commissions from composers such as Edmund Finnis, Freya Waley Cohen & Luke Bedford, and she regularly curates for other venues.

Her debut solo album The Isolated Cellist was released by Stone Records in April 2021, and she is currently developing her second solo album of contemporary music with NMC Recordings which will feature new commissions from Edmund Finnis, Emily Hall, Nick Martin, Natalie Klouda, Alex Mills and Emilie Levienaise Farrouch.

Clare is supported by PRS Open Fund, the Vaughan Williams Foundation, the Hinrichsen Foundation and the Francis Routh Trust.
