Spring Sale May 3, 2024 9AM-12PM

(Rain date May 4)

The Extension Master GardenerSM volunteers of Brunswick County are excited to announce some of the special selections planned for our Spring Plant Sale on Friday, May 3, 2024(Rain date May4), beginning at 9:00am to noon (or sell-out). The sale will take place behind the fenced area across the road from the Botanical Demonstration Garden off Referendum Drive in Bolivia, NC.

We are thrilled to offer four varieties of native Azaleas not readily available from retailers. Keep an eye out for the Tractor Seat plant (Farfugium giganteum), the Paperbush plant (Edgeworthia chrysantha), Chinese Snowball tree (Viburnum macrocephalum), and the 2024 Landscape Perennial of the year, Amsonia ‘Storm Cloud.’  We will also have selections of Japanese maples, blueberry bushes, Michelia ‘Stellar Ruby,’ Hydrangeas, Hibiscus, Pineapple Guava (Acca sellowiana), vining plants, and much more.

Plan to come early for the best choices as we must manage the customer flow from the selection area to the checkout tent. Most shrubs will be 3 gallon size. Prices will vary and quantities may be limited based on availability. We hope you will also visit the Botanical Garden where we will have docents available before and during the sale to answer questions. All profits from our plant sales are used to help maintain the gardens and support educational and outreach efforts of the Brunswick County Cooperative Extension.

Rain barrels will also be available for purchase, $75 each.

Soil Testing Info

The best first step toward having a beautiful garden and landscape is having your soil tested every couple of years. Homeowner/Residential Soil Kits are available for pick up on a table in front of the Extension Office doorways. Each soil test kit gives you three boxes for testing different areas of your yard and then you deliver them back, so we can send them to the labs at NC State University. Your info is returned directly to you by email. Instead of picking up and delivering your soil tests back to the Extension office, you may pick up AND drop off soil kits and testing boxes at the following locations throughout Brunswick County: Ace Hardware in Southport, Scott’s Farm/Jack’s Farm Center as well as Green Resource in Shallotte, Heritage Fresh Market (off Route 17) in Supply, Ace Hardware in Calabash, and Ace Hardware and Shelton Herb Farm in Leland.

We hope to see you at our plant sales this year. Always remember, the Extension Master Gardener volunteers greatly appreciate your support as we raise funds to support the Botanical Demonstration Gardens located beside the Extension offices, landscaping for Habitat for Humanity houses, and a wide variety of educational programming to help Brunswick County residents succeed in gardening in our coastal environment.
