On January 3rd, SCOV Resident and C-47 pilot Jon Helminiak, spoke to our club about the 1948-9 Berlin Airlift to 38 Veteran Club members
On Monday, February 7, our club presented Dawn Hawk from "Operation Barnabas" a $500 donation for her charity work in helping needing Veterans. LTC Andrew Korsmo, from Davis-Monthan AFB, give a presentation about piloting the A-10 Warthog and Predator drone. Larry Webster, Jeannete Moore and I presented Hugo Frausto, from Helping Arizona Veterans, with a $500 donation for their help with Veterans with PTSD.
Monday, March 7th, our club presented Hector Acosta from the Pima Community College Veterans Services, a $250 donation. We also presented a $500 donation to Jon McLane from the Tucson Veterans Mission. Karen Kuciver from the Tucson Womens Warriors, spoke to a full room of 45 members about helping Tucson female Veterans. At the end of her presentation, we presented her with a $500 donation from our club.
Monday, April 4th, Joe Shambo, Veteran Service Officer from the Tucson VFW, spoke to over 85 members and spouses about conditions for Veterans to file a claim through the VA. He answered questions and had members leave their contact information for him to follow up to assist them in filing claim to the VA for medical or compensation. Monday, May 2nd, Sa'ad Allawi from Healing Arizona Veterans, spoke to 45 members about treating Veteran's with Traumatic Brain Injuries and PTSD using a Hypobaric Chamber that hold up to 6 patients. Up to 80 treatments are provided free of charge through donations. Purple Heart recipients Dave Thomas and Jack Kunde were recognized during the meeting. Roger Misgen gave a briefing about his trip on the "Honor Flight" to Washington DC.
Monday, October 3rd, Shaun Pfund, from Missing in America Project, spoke to 40 club members about their organization that finds and ceremoniously inters unclaimed Veterans from southern Arizona at the Veterans Cemetery in Marana.
Monday, November 7th, Judge Thaddeous Semon, Pima County Municiple Court, spoke to club members about Veterans Court to aid Veterans with misdemeanor offences avoid jail, court costs, rehab costs or expensive attorney fees
Sunday, December 4th, 50 members from the Marana, Sunflower and Sun City Veterans Clubs held their first annual Potluck "Open Mic" luncheon at the Catalina Vista. Vietnam Veterans received a 50th anniversary pin for their service during the Vietnam War. A Blue Star pin was awarded to the surviving spouse of a Vietnam Veteran. Some members from all clubs shared stories from their time in the military and had a great variety of food, desserts and comradery. Missing man table was a special addition.
